The Cell phone penetration in the UK astounded me, although i do know my family in the uk, all have cell phones and in a couple of cases 2, one for personal and 1 for business, i used to think my family was and was an anomoly, for cell phones anyway !

The Belgium number also astounded me, especially as Holland, France and Germany (not even on the list) , it's neighbours, have such low numbers.

Oh just found this report that sort of contradicts the first one. oh well !!

Just remember that the infrastructure requirements in most of the countries listed is tiny compared to the US or Canada. Think how many repeaters are needed in Wyoming or Alaska!!! LOL

Italy is slightly larger than Arizona
Belgium is about the size of Maryland
U.K. is slightly smaller than Oregon
Poland is slightly smaller than New Mexico
The Netherlands is about twice the size of New Jersey.
The United States is about two and a half times the size of Western Europe

In other words, The United States is huge and you could fit many, many European Countries inside of the it.

A friend's mother was flying in from Germany. We live in Colorado. She called Sabina and said "My plane is landing at 3 PM. Please pick me up at Kennedy in NY". Got mad when Sabina told her it was too far. Sabina replied that next time she came out, she would land in Athens and expect to be picked up. Her mom said that was ridiculous. Sabina replied "Why, its only 1/2 the distance you expect me to drive"

I have the same problems when easterners talk about distance. There is a lot of empty space here in the west. You go 50 miles between adjacent little towns here, with maybe 3 ranches in between. Wyoming has 100000 sq miles of land and under 500,000 people. That's a population less than Boston proper in an area the size of New England.
