I have a Superdish that I found while dumpster diving.
The dish is in great shape but I'd like to replace the
LNB's for the eastern arc LNB (61.5, 72 & 77).

We've got a 3900 receiver, and I just bought a 722k
because we'd like to go HD. We'll be keeping the
3900 in the kids room and using the 722k in the
living room with the additional outlet going to
our bedroom.

My questions are:
A. Can I get a LNB that will fit the superdish,
or will I have to buy a whole new dish?

B. Will the 3900 receiver also be able to work with the
superdish, or should I just keep it connected to my old 500 dish?

I'm sort of piece mealing it all together.
I've also bought a DPP-44, separator & DPP-44 power
inserter.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

A: Yes. The 1000.4 LNB will fit the SuperDish. You may have to drill a hole to secure the LNB.
B: The 3900 will not work. You need a Mpeg-4 compatible receiver for the Eastern Arc. (211, 211K, 411, 622, 722, 722K and 922 aka the VIP series)

If you want to go HD, why not just have Dish do the install and take the 24 month commitment. That will also get you HD for free I think; otherwise HD will cost $10 per month extra or you'll have to pay something like a one time $99 fee to get HD for life. Contact one of the DIRT reps (names in red)via private message on the forum to see wha all your options are.

@Voyager6...

Thanks for the info.
I forgot about mpeg-4.
Guess we'll just keep the 500 up.
Can't afford to buy another receiver
right now.

@Laddyboy...

I've been with Dish for over 11 years.
I have autopay & paperless billing.
I think that qualifies you for Free HD for Life
without paying the $99.

Although, I was committed the first year,
I guess to pay for the 3900 receiver,
I really don't like commitments...
that's why I have a Tracfone. :D

You are welcome. You don't list your location but you could put up a second D500 with a single LNB adapter for 129. Or, get a 1000.2 LNB and point the SuperDish at 110/119/129. That will allow you to receive most of the HD channels. You can still use the Mpeg-2 receivers on the Western Arc. There is a great deal on a 211k at the Dish Store.

I thought about that.
Problem is all my HD locals are on 61.5°W.
I could shoot a single LNB @ that bird, I guess.
Then set the superdish up for 110°,119° & 129°W.

That would use up all the ports on my DPP-44.
Could I use the port recommended for FSS
with the 61.5 lnb?

I am currently receiving 110/119/129 and 61.5 with my SuperDish and D500 with a DPP44 switch. My intention is to switch to the EA as soon as I find time to relocate my SuperDish. I also need to replace my 522 DVR.

A: Yes. The 1000.4 LNB will fit the SuperDish. You may have to drill a hole to secure the LNB.

Physically it will fit the arm of the Super Dish, but it will not work unless you modify the length of the arm, and possibly the spacing of the feed horns. The same goes with a 1000.2 LNB. There is a special kit to convert the Super Dish to a WA triple sat dish using three DP LNB's. It includes a new arm, and LNB bracket. Not sure if there is a kit to convert it to an EA triple sat, or not (supposedly you can use a SD reflector on a .4 skew plate). If I was you I would just get a 1000.2 dish, and an extra DP LNB, point your current dish to the 61.5 for your locals, and use the 1000.2 for the rest of the HD. You could also get a 1000.4 dish, and just use it on the VIP receiver only. Regardless you're going to have two dishes four your set up. Just as a reminder a legacy LNB will not work with any DP/DP+ switches (DP+44 SW, or any 1000.X inputs), and the Super Dish uses a larger diameter mast than the other Dish dishes so unless you got the mast, or are planning to use a pole it won't fit your current 500 mast. However IIRC the newer "D" dish masts are the same size so that may be an option as well.

Do they not make an adapter to fit a 1000.2 or 1000.4 on a SuperDish? I know they had an adapter to fit three DP lnb's (or a DP twin and DP single) on a SuperDish.

There is no adapter to fit a 1000.2 LNB, a 1000.4 LNB, or any Twin LNB to the super dish. Only the three individual LNB,s. You can use DP singles, DP duals, or lagacy LNB's. If you was to use Legacy LNB's then all three LNB's and the related switch gear would also need to be Lagacy. :EDIT: I believe there was also a kit to convert the Super Dish to a 500+/1000+ dish as well.

OK Guys, I appreciate the responses and suggestions...

I've gone ahead and ordered a New Dish 1000.2 from fleabay.
I'll shoot that at 110°, 119° and 129° W.
I'll use my current Dish 500 for the 61.5° bird using
a single DP LNB from the Superdish.

Will I have to worry about a skew angle since I'm only
aiming at one bird (61.5°W)?
I saw in one chart it list -23° for it, just curious.

Thanks again,
