Do you think its possible or advisable to connect my box to the internet? Would my account get flagged at DTV end?

I think connecting your receiver to the internet is a sure fire way to get your receiver and account flagged and thus terminated.

As per the CRTC rules any non authorize services are considered illegal. Directv also has a zero tolerance policy for there services being anywhere but where it licensed to be in this case Canada.

I know some people will write in and tell you to do it and that's OK and you won't get caught. Obviously, the risk is up to you. If it were me - no way.

Because they are violating there terms of service with directv and violating there own screwed up federal law. They are criminals and it my job it to report as such.

Why not get a hobby instead?

There are more and more Slimlines appearing everyday on Canadian homes. They are fed up with the crap Bell, Shaw and Rogers provide.

That's understandable. Have you considered trying to get the Canadian laws changed?

Kind of a chicken and egg thing.

The only way to fight it is to get charged. Cops in Canada would never charge anyone because they realize what a completely stupid law it is and many of them have US satellite themselves. If a private citizen did get charged, they could use the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms as an argument in court and they would win. The law itself would be declared in contravention of the Charter and overturned. The monopolistic televison providers in Canada would end up losing their precious protection that was given to them by the corrupt Liberal Party of Canada as tens of thousands of Canadians would switch to Directv or Dish .

The current Conservative goverment has vowed to change the RC Act and allow foreign providers. Unfortunately, the Conservatives have a minority government and are not able to introduce legislation to reverse the Supreme Court Ruling. The corrupt Liberal Party along with the socialist NDP Party would join together and force an election.

And I can't believe we are still talking about citizens of a democratic nation having to break the law to watch TV. It is almost 2011 isn't it?

You gonna turn in everyone here who has Canadian sat service?

different rules. There is no federal law here that says you can't subscribe to Candian TV. The only rules that Bell/Shaw are forced to use is the address on file has to be Canadian. Lots of snowbirds have a Shaw setup in Florida :)
