ViXS Systems Demonstrates Video From any Source, to any Display Device at CES 2006
LAS VEGAS --(Business Wire)-- Jan. 3, 2006 ViXS Systems:
-- New ViXS-Based Wireless TVs, Media PCs, Media Centers Make Video Management Easy
-- Products From Sony, Hitachi, Philips, Funai and Others Displayed in South Hall 3, Booth #31774
ViXS Systems, the leading developer of video processing and wireless chipsets, today announced that it will demonstrate next-generation, ViXS-powered home entertainment products from several of its manufacturing partners during the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Using ViXS' XCode video processor and Matrix II wireless baseband processor, these products allow users to easily capture, store and transfer video between various display devices throughout the home. The products will be shown in the ViXS booth (South Hall 3, Booth #31774) at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, from January 5-8, 2006.
The products demonstrated by ViXS at CES will show how the company is working with OEM partners such as Sony, Hitachi, Philips and Funai to address several trends in the consumer electronics market, including:
-- The increasing desire by consumers to record, archive and play back high-quality video content on a wide range of in-home and portable devices using a variety of video formats
-- The need for much simpler, less time consuming solutions for encoding content for different devices
-- The increasing use of home networks, particularly wireless networks, to share and access content
At CES, ViXS Systems will demonstrate a new breed of consumer electronics and PC-based products that use ViXS technology to offer consumers more capability, better performance and a more convenient user experience. These demonstrations include:
PC TV Tuners & Media PCs -- For PC systems running Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition 2005, ViXS will showcase TV tuner cards and media PCs from Sony, Philips, Hitachi, Avermedia, IODATA, PLX and Pixela, which use ViXS' technology to offer dual tuner capability on a single PCI-board. ViXS will also demonstrate the simplicity of recording, encoding and transferring broadcast video from a PC to a Sony PlayStation(R)Portable (PSP(TM)) and Apple iPod(R).
Wireless TVs & Media Adapters -- A new 42-inch plasma television from European consumer electronics company Profilo features an integrated wireless receiver and external wireless adapter. ViXS will also showcase wireless video technology from SIGMACOM and Funai's wireless media adapter -- a standalone transmitter & receiver product offered in the U.S. market that plugs into any legacy or new display using S-video or composite inputs. These demonstrations illustrate the ease with which ViXS-based products can wirelessly stream standard-definition video content from consumers' DVR/DVD player to their television located anywhere in the home.
Embedded Systems -- ViXS will use Sony's LocationFree LF-PK1 to access content stored offsite and wirelessly stream it to a Sony PSP over the public Internet. Attendees will also see the Sony Type X Media Server -- the world's most powerful DVR -- and its massive video capture capabilities. Both products, which are based on ViXS' XCode video processor, demonstrate how consumers can record DVD-quality video over any network and transport content to all kinds of devices with no visible quality loss, regardless of video format.
"Today's consumer has access to numerous video sources, including over-the-air broadcasts, cable and satellite, camcorders, DVDs and the Internet," said Sally Daub, president and CEO of ViXS Systems. "Our technology gives consumers greater flexibility and control over their content -- enabling them to quickly burn content to DVD, store it on hard drives or send it to another display device -- without being overwhelmed by the complexity of the underlying processes. Our manufacturing partners are committed to making video management easier, and we're very excited to show how our technology is making that possible."
About XCode
ViXS' XCode video processor increases the performance of video processing and provides consumers with a high-quality viewing experience. XCode is the first chipset that can encode and transrate multiple streams of analog and digital content -- including high definition and standard definition video -- at speeds of 6x to 24x real time. The video content can come from any source because XCode processes video in any standard format, from MPEG1 to MPEG4. In addition, the encoding technology integrated into XCode can process video frame information with much better quality and at a lower bit rate than previous processors. This benefits consumers by reducing the amount of memory required to store video and makes this technology ideal for multimedia PCs, wireless TVs, PVRs and DVD-Rs.
About Matrix II
Matrix II is the first WLAN processor to wirelessly distribute two HDTV (19-24 Mbps each) video streams from a single integrated circuit. It is also the only wireless chip that utilizes multiple antenna Maximum Ratio for MIMO 802.11 pre-n performance gains while maintaining the cost advantages of being a fully standards compliant 802.11a/b/g IC. A Matrix II solution can provide over 40 Mbps of useable bandwidth with a range of 100 feet through 3 walls, or a total raw throughput of 124Mbps. Matrix II enables PC and consumer electronics manufacturers to develop next-generation wireless media centers, LCD TVs, Personal Video Recorders (PVRs), DVD players/recorders and media center PCs capable of delivering wireless HD video throughout a large home without the need for proprietary or closed-loop technologies.
