Volume Control On Dish Receiver

I recently upgraded from digital cable to the Dish Network DVR 522. I have an older style tuner that I use for my tv sound that is controlled by a knob instead of a remote. With my digital cable box I was able to control the volume on the receiver. However, this does not seem to be the case with this new receiver. Because of the fact that I'm not going through my tv, I cannot use my tv to control the volume. I don't have av out plugs in my tv either, so that isn't an option. I've tried contacting Dish Network about it, but they don't seem to be able to offer any suggestions. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

No. The Dish remotes are designed to operate devices that are remote controlled via IR. The Dish receivers do NOT vary their audio output levels.

Without knowing why you've got such old gear, all I can recommend is that you bite the bullet and move to at least 10-15 year old equipment. Actually, I've just retired my 18 year old Sony receiver and even it allowed remote control of the volume.

Wal-Mart and others have a regent $100 home-theatre-in-a-box that includes a DVD player, surround sound, and allows external audio input. If you're on a budget, ya can't beat it. I had one until I upgraded to a mid-range Sony system that I love.
