I just posted these instructions over at the Satellite Forum since
some members have picked up VOOM receivers off ebay, etc. recently.
I hope they are useful to some of our newer VOOM forum members who
joined because they purchased a VOOM box:
If there is an OTA module with an F connector on the back of your
VOOM box you will hook it up there. The module will be on the right
side of the rear panel and can be identified by a light grey plastic
tab which is a quick release button.
I do not recommend hooking up the OTA antenna while the unit is
powered on and to be very safe I would hook it up before it is
plugged in. Since you are going to use a splitter if you are
keeping your other sets connected, I would recommend that you buy a
DC block for coax at Radio Shack and use it between the antenna coax
and the VOOM box. The VOOM box does put out a voltage from the OTA
module and it's probably best not to impose that onto the rf inputs
of your other TV sets.
When you are hooked up and powered on and the Monitor is also hooked
up you should see a screen with The VOOM logo and a please wait type
of caption. If you don't you can try lifting the flip cover labeled
Motorola on the right front panel of the VOOM box and pushing the
button in that compartment, waiting a few seconds and repeating it
until you get a picture. You are toggling the output of the box to
match your monitor. You may notivce that amber light bars will go
on and move as you do this. All four light bars may also come on
indicating native resolution. If you have no picture anywhere in
this process recheck your wiring. If you have a picture you are
ready to use the "scan locals" function.
1) Push the big VOOM button and it will show theme basedprogram
guide type of ID page.
2) Push the Green round button in the third row of the remote to
select "options and settings".
3) Again push the green button to get to the "Systems Settings"
screen.
4) You will get a warning notice and is with all warning notices go
ahead and ignore it....just kidding, only ignore this one.
5) Now you are on the "Systems Settings" page and there are a few
setup items to select. For now, select Option 7 "Installer Menu".
You can "play" with the others later.
6) Choose Option 1 "Installation Wizard".
7) You can choose "Option 3" to aim your antenna if you have a rotor
or skip this step if you do not have a rotor or feel your OTA
antenna is peaked.
8)Choose "Option 4" "Scan local channels" and wait and watch while
the receiver is finding and listing your digital locals.
9) Choose "Save and Close" or "Redo Aim" in the case that you don't
find all the channels that you expect. If your antenna is hooked up
correctly and has a good, stable signal you will scan in all your
Digital locals.
10) Now hit the "Watch" button below the VOOM button and go to 100
by manually entering the three digits and hit OK button.
11) Now use the channel selector on the right side of the remote
and channel down. You should find the channels that you scanned in
here in the channel numbers under 100.
There will be no Program Guide since the VOOM service beamed that
one in via Satellite.
Watch and enjoy. It's a very good picture. isn't it?
