DISH Network Passes 10 Million Customer Milestone; DISH Network
Thanks Customers, Retailers by Giving Away 1,000 Complete High
Definition Television Systems

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 2004--EchoStar
Communications Corporation (Nasdaq:DISH) announced that its DISH
Network(TM) has passed the 10 million customer milestone,
maintaining DISH Network's status as the fastest growing pay
television provider in the nation since 2000. DISH Network reached
this milestone in less than 99 months after activating its first
subscriber in early March 1996, adding an average of more than
100,000 net new customers each month. In the last four years, DISH
Network has added more than 6.3 million net new customers, more than
all other satellite TV and cable companies combined during the same
period.

DISH Network is celebrating by thanking its customers with the $1
Million Great HDTV Giveaway. One thousand high definition television
(HDTV) systems, complete with a monitor, HD satellite receiver, a
dish antenna, and one-year subscription to DISH Network's HD
programming package, will be given to existing customers in random
drawings this summer. The total value of the giveaway is
approximately $1 million.

"For the past eight years, DISH Network has offered the best value
in pay television, attracting a growing number of customers at a
pace unmatched by any other satellite or cable TV company in the
nation," said Charles Ergen, chairman and CEO of EchoStar. "We
couldn't have reached 10 million without our customers and
retailers, so we're thanking them by giving away 1,000 of our state-
of-the-art HDTV systems."

DISH Network reached 1 million subscribers in December 1997 and
passed the 9 million milestone just nine months ago. Today the
company offers customers more than 500 channel choices, including
more than 60 international channels in more than 25 languages, the
most popular sports packages, the most requested HD programming, and
local channels in 131 cities, representing more than 90 percent of
all U.S. television households. DISH Network's accelerated growth
has made it the fourth largest pay TV service in the nation.

Since the company's inception, DISH Network's innovative set-top box
engineering has attracted industry-wide attention and captured the
attention of DISH Network customers in record numbers. DISH Network
recently introduced the first feature-rich digital video recorder
(DVR) that records satellite-delivered high definition TV channels.
DISH Network also developed the first DVR set-top box that provides
the unique ability to record two shows simultaneously as well as
allow for independent viewing of live satellite TV programming and
recorded events on two or more televisions.

I switched from Dish to Voom and here is why.

The don't care about existing customers.

I subscribed with them for 3+ years and my bill was always paid on time. I had their everything pack (like Va-Va-Voom) so I was spending a good amount each month. When they DVR's first came out, I had to pay $100 to upgrade to it even though they were giving them away to new customers. When I wanted to go to HD, they wanted to charge me another $100 for the receiver and then pay the extra $11 a month for the 4 or 5 channels they provided in HD. I understand they are in business to make money. But they make the bulk of their money on programming, not on equipment. It just seems like bad business to me to treat existing customers that way. When I called to tell them I was cancelling, they did not offer me anything to try and keep me. They just don't care.

Robert,
this is OT but, could you (and other offenders) please try to edit your posts by deleting the unnecessary text from the posts that you are responding to? Thanks.

Unfortunately most companies could care less about their existing customers.

Two words .. "WIRELESS CARRIERS".

They bend over backward to get you to sign up. Once you're they're customer
they screw you in every way possible. I had Nextel, Sprint and Verizon in
that order and every one of them socked it to me good after I was their
customer. The kicker.. try leaving them.. you get it both ways.

I pray that VOOM is not the same way.

Actually no. I can't stand it when someone posts a reply to a question but
the original question isn't there. What kind of email system do you have
that you can't handle a long message? Oh.. don't bother.. I wouldn't want
your system to get full responding. <seg>

Robert,
this is OT but, could you (and other offenders) please try to edit your
posts by deleting the unnecessary text from the posts that you are
responding to? Thanks.

Actually no. I can't stand it when someone posts a reply to a question but
the original question isn't there. What kind of email system do you have
that you can't handle a long message? Oh.. don't bother.. I wouldn't want
your system to get full responding. <seg>

Fair enough.
So what question did you respond to in your post earlier today when the only think you said was "test" followed by 2 pages of Dish announcement?

You can, however, significantly pear down your post by eliminating non essential verbiage.

Robert they are viewing it in the Satelliteguys.us form and it makes it harder to read in the form area.

I like you and most others are viewing it in Emails from Yahoo so it isn't really a problem.

But I see thier point from the Forum point of view.

Eric

Okay, that makes much more sense! No problem then.

Thanks Eric,

Robert

I realize this post was OT and supposedly mistakenly posted, but did nobody find the contents of this message a little strange???

They're giving away 1000 HD setups (including 'state-of-the-art' HD receivers, STBs, 1 year programming, etc...). The value of this giveaway is stated to be $1,000,000. That means EACH and every giveaway is WORTH $1,000. Not to look a potential gift-horse in the mouth, but how 'state-of-the-art' HDTV set are you going to get as PART of a $1,000 setup?!?!

--Timster--

Thats pretty bad when one person duplicates such a long long post but for two people to do it makes me think of a broken record.

It looks like a 1 in 10,000 chance to win the HD system.

Perhaps state of the one thousand dollar art? ;)

[VOOM] Re: Dish passes 10 mil subs, giving away 1000 HDTV systems

Its not that bad...
I hear they are built by RCA/Thompson

While not the best quality I certantly would not turn one down.

Here are the specs on the prize:
