I think several people on the Sattellite Guys Voom forum believe it has to do with contracts, but I want to know if that is correct or maybe it's another reason.

HOwever, since Voom is geared towards being the Sat service for HD owners, and since the STB can downconvert and crop images coming down the HD feed for standard TVs, why is Voom keeping the duplicate SD channels.

Why do we need ESPN SD when ESPN HD shows the same thing? I know in Discovery's case it's different programming so that's fine. HBO HD/SD Showtime HD/SD are the same, I think we are all mature enough consumers that can tell the difference if you nix all the duplicates and use that bandwidth to add new channels. I personally don't look at how many SD channels I have, I browse through the PG looking for good content to watch, so the more varied the content the better.
