[VOOM] Everyone but VOOMers can see Olympics

NBC's regular package on 593 and 594 apparently is only for people in
markets with NBC owned and operated stations. I'm not in one of
those. Everyone else where I live can watch the regular coverage on
the local station's analog signal. I can't. Why? Because the VOOM
receiver doesn't display analog. So I'm out of luck. I talked to a
clueless CSR, an experience I don't recommend. She told me that I
could watch the regular coverage on Bravo, USA, and MSNBC. Great, I
love watching archery.

[VOOM] Re: Everyone but VOOMers can see Olympics

Here in Northern Cal's NBC-owned O&0, I can see 321 in HD but no
593/594 (Call VOOM...) 321 is showing 2002 Olympics. Guide says
opening ceremonies at 6pm PDT.

Split or unhook your OTA line and plug it directly into you TV.
Bypassing VOOM's receiver should allow you to see it.

The title of your thread is way out of line. Infact is an outright lie. I have Voom and I am watching NBCHD OTA just fine. You should have investigated the features of Vooms reciever before you joined. An dont blame Voom for your local affiliates shortcomings. Write the FCC, NBC and your local affialite. They are more responsible for your problem than Voom is. And if you claim Voom is the culprit, then you need to look at your inability to understand the limitations of the hardware before you signed up. AN SD D* reciever wont display an HD OTA station, shall we blame D* for that too?

I can get the tape-delay HD version just fine, too. What I can't
get, as I wrote in my first message, is the regular, SD, same-day
coverage. If you're able to get that, you must be in an O&O market.

RE: [VOOM] Re: Everyone but VOOMers can see Olympics

I just talked to my Dad. He had the same problem as you. He called Voom and
the CSR turned on 593 for him.

I would suggest calling a CSR and getting them to turn on 593.

<vurbano.1aym5k @n="">
I get both because the local affiliate broadcasts both the HD feed and the SD feed. Your affiliate is dropping the ball by not broadcasting the SD version, only an analog one. But, In doing so, the affiliate is giving you a higher bitrate on the HD feed. You are blaming Voom for that and making a thread entitled "Everyone but VOOMers can see Olympics"?, .......... thats absurd. Get your self an analog antenna and tuner.

[VOOM] Re: Everyone but VOOMers can see Olympics

I would concur. While most accounts automatically had the Olympics
added, a few didn't. We've been adding them by hand when it is
indicated. So far this has been working pretty well.

So if you are supposed to be receiving the feed and aren't or think
you should and aren't sure, call 800-GET-VOOM see if we can correct
the situation.

I doubt that an affiliate is going to let someone get a sat sd feed of an out of market Olympic feed if that affiliate is broadcasting the signal in its analog form. There is no law requiring SD yet. And the affiliate would theoretically lose revenue due to users not watching their in market commercials.

If that were the case then I should be entitled to another feed of the WB network because the local here isnt in HD. But I dont see that happening.... ever. The FCC is far from adressing that yet.

Can I e-mail you or something with my account information and have you turn on 593. I've called Voom twice, I live in the Miami O&O market, I am supposed to get 593, missed out on this for the weekend when I REALLY wanted to see something in particular, however I've called 2 Voom CSRs that have told me:

"We don't know how to turn on this channel for you, my supervisor told me what you see is what you get"

All the Olympics technical calls must be getting forwarded to the San Diego Zoo.
