[VOOM] Final question from newbie - why no PPV on VOOM?

[VOOM] Mike, actually VOOM does have one PPV called "Playboy Hot HD".

One guess as to what's on there. Maybe this is the channel that is
keeping them going financially! Don't know what's on it as haven't
subscribed.

We would like PPV as well. Would be happy to pay for new movies.
Assume this will be part of the new 70 HD channels in March and DVR
set for the "first half of 2005" update to the service. We'll see.
Maybe something will be announced at CES.

Watching HDTV under tapering off rainy (hey, it doesn't rain all the
time) Seattle skies, Gill

Baring bad weather, I don't see why your install shouldn't be a simple in-and-out procedures. Just a couple things to consider:

1. If your dish on the roof or in a hard to get to area, I hope you don't live in the snow belt. Of course that may now be Texas!

2. I will assume that you have separate RG-6 for your antenna?

3. How many receivers will you be installing? If more than one, do you have an amplifier/distribution system running to your other receivers?

4. If you have an existing multi-switch in place with your E* system, I would pull it out prior to your install just so the installer isn't tempted to reuse it. Although I have separate coax for my Channel Master antenna and to all my receivers, VOOM installed a Winegard model# VM-3400 power passing multi-switch free of charge - this may be much better than an older, weather-beaten multi-switch you may have in place.

Anyway, good luck on your install. Please post the results.

[VOOM] Re: Final question from newbie - why no PPV on VOOM?

Well, if they are going to use the PPV function than they are going
to have to have a software fix first. My phone lines are
disconnected from the VOOM box, because the boxes freeze constantly
since the last update when the phone line is connected. I think the
phone line must be connected to use the PPV.

Both VOOM and Dishnetwork use the same bird at the 61.5 location.

If your dishnet antenna at 61.5 is using a legacy LNB, they can use the same dish, if it is using a DishPro LNB (does Frequency stacking) then they will have to use the voom dish or just change the dp-lnb to a legacy type on the dishnetwork dish. Another option with a dishpro lnb is to use a "Dish Pro Adapter" at the VOOM STB. This will convert the frequecy stacking back to a legacy setup before the signal enters the voom stb, they cost about $60 for the adapters.
