Hi,
do not know if the title makes any sense. I have 2 Voom boxes purchased from ebay. The first one works great. It has the latest software so I can do scan for local channels. I just purchased another one for a buddy of mine and this one has the software 5.68, I believe, and I can't make it work. The seller is from the south (I am in Chicago) and there are only 4 corresponding local channels, of which only 3 "sort of" work. I do not get ANY major channels on this box. I would like to know if there is a way to change the zip code (?)/rescan the locals. This box does NOT have the menu where you press "green" twice, get into the installer menu and scan for locals. The only options in the installer menu is: tune for satellite, reportback and system status . I have read all I could find on this forum about the OTA problems and everybody assumes that the stb has the scan option. This one does not. Please help.Eric

If the box doesn't have the latest firmware then you are stuck with the capabilities that it has. There is no way to push a firmware upgrade to a non-supported box.

There is huge risk attempting to locate a working box from Ebay.

or.........

You might could try selling the set-top box to Ultatryon or some other guys who are trying to figure these boxes potential out. There is also a USB port on all receivers. You could try hooking up the older firmware receiver to the newer firmware receiver and see if it tries to upgrade itself. I highly doubt it will, but if you've got a USB A male to male cord then it wouldn't be that hard to try.
