[VOOM] Motorola Sucks!

All this complaining about the equipement reminds me of one of my very first posts to the group. I expressed reservations as to the equipment maker/supplier, Motorola, from the very beginning.

I got several emails telling me I would be wrong. I was REALLY REALLY hoping I would be. But after 4 years with the 4DTV receiver on the C-band dish and owning a Motorola Cell phone (3 times I sent it in for service), I knew I wasn't going to be.

I still haven't signed up for service. There isn't a day that goes by that I get close to dailing that number but then I read more about the terrible equipmnet and walk away!

I'm frustrated with 4DTV, I'm frustrated with my terrestrial again/off again HD service, Comcast still is lacking anything worth subscribing to, and the picture of small dish is terrible.

Sorry...just had to scream in frustration!!! UG!!!!

[VOOM] Re: Motorola Sucks!

At first lock ups were common place, that is software related.
My last reboot was on Aug. 22nd. I hardly ever have to reboot.
I know some people have more but again it software related, not the
STB. My SA STB from Cablevision has lots more issues than the MOT.
Or I could just be plain lucky LOL

[VOOM] Re: Motorola Sucks!

I'm with berockin1, I've had Voom for several months now with virtually no hardware
issues- certainly not any more than what I had with a very mature D* platform. I've even
been through 2 hurricanes coming ashore just 8-15 miles away. In one I took the dish and
then had to reattach and realign myself. In the second, I just left it up there. Neither event
caused me any hardware problems.

I know the posts tend to lean to the gripes about what is not good about the hardware or
the service or cablevision or etc. But, maybe the happy people are just watching tons and
tons of great HD. Thus, almost all that is left is those who find fault (or actually experience
some fault) and need to tell the world about it.

I'm not big Motorola fan myself, but I think the Voom box is about as good as most any
other out there. It has some issues (they all do) and it does not have every bell & whistle
(as none of the others do either) but it works well enough to fill by HDTV screen with HD
channel choices far beyond the other options.

[VOOM] Re: Motorola Sucks!

Ever since the rollback to 6.20 software I have had no lockups or
resets. I like the Motorola STB.

Re: [VOOM] Re: Motorola Sucks!

I never got the new software and have been at 6.20 right along with no problems. Did they rollback to 6.2 those people who hadn't gotten the upgrade? I thought the VOOM CSR said that would not be possible to rollback the version. If they have rolled it back that's probably my biggest criticism of VOOM: not being able to actually talk to a person wo knows what they are talking about instead of a courteous, friendly person who is winging it and telling you nonsense.
