I'm one of the "Silent Majority" that had a great install from Installs Inc.
I actually ran two runs of Quad Shield up to the install point from my
structured wiring panel so the installer only had to plug-in from the wall
jack and terminate on the roof.
I had my own giant rooftop VHF/UHF antenna on a rotator but I haven't
bothered hooking it up yet. I hate commercials and if I wanted to watch
local, I just switch the Sony Wega LCD to Cox Digital Cable and watch SD.
Our locals don't have that much HD anyway.
I plan on buying a separate OTA STB Tuner so I can pick up Los Angeles HD
Stations from San Diego (I can pick up Santa Barbara SD from San Diego).
Yes, the OTA function on the Motorola box is restrictive. It should just
scan. But it's an add-on module and has limited capabilities.I didn't get
VOOM to watch local HD anyway.
Let's keep the FOCUS. VOOM is for full-time HD. Cable has so few stations
and most are just the locals and those few are expensive per channel.
I spend less for VOOM and Cox Digital than I would for Cox Digital + Cox HD,
and I get alot more HD full time.
VOOM will get better and have more national feeds. We are just PIONEERS with
VOOM and the whole HD movement. Enjoy the ride - it's the best possible.
I too would upgrade top a 38" dish but we may need an elliptical/oval dish
in the near future for VOOM anyway.
As far as a DVR goes, just use a good JVC S-VHS deck with digital
processsing and record thru the S-VHS output. Should get at least 330-380
lines of resolution and no white noise in the picture. Soon, Media Center
PCs will be common and you will have all the Tivo functions with your PC
attached to your HD TV. It's already here. Goodbye Tivo if Intel and Bill
Gates have their way.
Byt he way, has anyone had experience running a Sony LCD Wega off the DVI
VOOM STB output?
