New here. We have had BEV for 3 years (with the 6000 box), which
has maybe 20+ HD channels (10 of which are E/W network feeds (CBS,
NBC, FOX, ABC,PBS). It has WGN HD (which doesn't have much HD), a
sports channel or two, a premium HD movie channel like HBO, 5
Canadian local/network channels, and 4 PPV HD channels. They do not
have a DVR available.
We have a 9 y.o. D* box and still have the $11/mo. basic pkg from
Comcast.

A year ago I was at CES where VOOM was demonstrating their
complete house distribution system that was controlled by a rather
sophisticated computer. They were also "soon" to come out w. a DVR.
Of course E* had been showing a DVR for at least 2 yrs. prior to last
Jan. - and it didn't come out until this year. It is now known as
the obsolete 921. BEV, which uses DISH equipment has decided to
forego taking on the 921. They did take on the DISH 811 box.

I wrote VOOM telling them that I will not upgrade my system to
include them until they come out w. a DVR. D* has had one for some
time, and Comcast just started installing them in our area 2 weeks
ago. I also found it strange that for a provider that specializes
in HD - they don't carry the E/W networks that D* does! D* carries
FOX, CBS, NBC and soon, ABC HD feeds. A lot of potential VOOM
subscribers would be eligible for these feeds. They also don't carry
InHD or HDNET.
When I get back from CES I'll make a decision between Comcast,
D*, and VOOM. It appears that DISH is out of the HD game as they
only have a few channels and an obsolete DVR with none even projected
for the future - altho i'll ask them at CES. Whoever I pick has to
have a DVR. Since we probably will keep BEV, I could use VOOM, even
if they don't carry network HD. If Comcast added a few more
channels, we would go w. them since there is no hardware investment.

----VOOM's reply was that their DVR would be released "in the
first half of 2005." Just a couple of months ago I read that they
were aiming for March. Now it's July. They tried to say in the
meantime there are ways to record in std. def. Of course there are,
we've been using VCRs to do that for 15+ years!
I think VOOM made a mistake trying to duplicate D*, E* and cable
by adding the std. "cable" type channels. They should have
concentrated solely on HD since virtually everyone has access to
cable to get the "regular" channels.
