[VOOM] OTA Reception

Among the many variables that may cause problems, there is another I
rarely see mentioned here - the inconsistency in the station you are
trying to receive. Digitial transmission for many stations is also a
new ballgame. Sometimes they're good; other times they stink with a
variety of problems including pixelization, poor audio sync, etc.;
other times they are just flat off the air - either scheduled or
unscheduled.

If a particular station is mapped but you aren't receiving it,
especially if you once did, the problem may well lie with the station
and not your STB or antenna. It's a good idea to hook-up with a
message board particular to your locale, such as on AVS Forums or
Satguys, so you can ask, "hey, channel 7 was horrible last night -
anyone else having those problems". More often than not you will find
everyone is - not just those with Voom.

Questions such as this on a national forum like Yahoo are pretty much
useless. I also fear that calling the CSR and complaining will just
lead to another truck run with a new box or new antenna when that
isn't the problem. There's apparently not much else a CSR can do but
get you a new box and I wonder if that solution isn't used far to
often.

[VOOM] OTA What to Do?

I can't decide what to do about my OTA.
I've had V* for 5 days now and I love the HD and even the SD quality
is not that bad.
My problem is OTA. I have 4 showing up in the on screen guide and
even zapit from the V* website shows 5 of them. I checked TitanTV and
it shows 2 channels. Antennaweb says "There are no digital stations
predicted to serve this location". If I put in an address 2 miles
further away from the Digital stations antennaweb shows 1 station
avail.

When My installer came he said I can't get any of those from here!
Afer initial install the installer did not even try to get any ota
reception. (partially due to a storm comming in), But he came back 2
days later and spent 2 hours trying to get the stations to come in.
We ended up getting 5 analog stations only 3 are watchable out of 15
listed.
So Am I wasting my time trying to get voom to do an antenna upgrade?
Being on hold forever and then getting the call back option. Is a
Pain!
The digital OTA stations are 50 and 70 miles away.
I still have basic cable with the locals. Costing $17 a month
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

OTA Reception

smitzonok1,
I can tell you from my own experience that a 50 to 70 mile distance is a "far piece" for any antenna that VOOM may provide. My suggestion: buy your own, if you're really wanting those channels.
What you need (other than a clear line of sight to the transmission towers) is your own antenna tower, as tall as you can afford, and the largest UHF antenna you dare put up.
You will have to aim the antenna precisely at each tower using the compass readings available on antennaweb and may need a rotator if they are not in the same direction.
And you may still need a preamplifier to pull them in in inclement weather.
Reply if you decide to proceed cause I'm up for a challenge to prove antennaweb wrong: they said I, too, would never get my OTA's.
But, I got 'em with some effort.

OTA distance reception

I have the Voom supplied antenna hooked up, but I still have my VHF-UHF 40' tower. Since I get good UHF reception with it , but can not receive the OTA digital channels over 30 miles away... can I just hook it up old UHF and expect the reception to be better? It will mean splicing the cable and getting into the our hot attic, so would rather not try it unless it should help.
