[VOOM] Sears

I went into my local Sears yesterday to see how they were promoting and showing off VOOM. It was very startling to say the least. They had the VOOM receiver on the bottom shelf in a very narrow aisle. You would not know it was VOOM unless you already had a unit because you couldn't possibly see the logo. The salesman could not display the VOOM picture for me even though HDNET from the Dishnet receiver was being displayed on every TV simultaneously. He said that there was some kind of problem with the signal and the VOOM people were coming back tomorrow. Pretty lame.
They did have the VOOM starter kit and VOOM info on display but he was unable to discuss it with me because he knew nothing about it. He wanted to talk about the Dishnet and the Dishnet brochures were right next to VOOM's. I was trying to find out about the current special for a free second receiver I read about. I don't think that special actually exists.
SEARS as the main retail outlet is an impediment to VOOM's growth. They will do much better with small HDTV specialty outlets I believe. WE would all be more successful than SEARS at signing people up.

same here in indy i went to fix there voom last week and it was on a very small tv in a narrow aisle but they said to me that it was cause there were remodeling . and again they had d* on all the hd tv's I am sure Voom will not put up with this very long.

Hey Wilt, I commented on Sears being lousy a few weks ago. ie.
uncalobrated discontinued TV etc you said you'd pass it on ...
Everytime I ask the sales guy to change the channel he says only
HDNews is available.
Is that true ? Worldsport, Rush or ESPNHD would probably get more
attention on the sales floor. Does Sears have the ability the show
more than HDNews ???

MARKET VOOM AT CIRCUIT CITY, SOUNDTRACK, BEST BUY.. THEY SELL MORE HDTV'S THAN FREAKIN SEARS. The sooner voom gets there service shown at the major retailers than the sooner voom will get the subscribers they are looking for. Thats my perspective atleast.

I have been a sales manager for years and when you have resellers with two lines and they are only promoting one, this is called "shelving" the line. Basically means that they are not selling the line and eliminating a competitor from the playing field. Almost seems they have a strategy to promote Dishnet to the detriment of Sears.
VOOM would be better off to have a field sales team of dedicated, knowledgeable independents. I inquired about becoming a dealer as I sell and install HDTV systems and it seemed the perfect match. I got back some kind of mindless response, almost like a standard form letter referring me to a distributor in Long Island I believe. The distributor never responded.
I'd like to see these folks be successful because I like their programming package and I personally don't care for the other pizza guys. Since I've had a BUD since 1983 and sell Big Dish programming also I am almost irrationally negative about DirecTV and Dishnet. VOOM is much more of a Videophile's choice and SEARS is not even close to being an ideal Videophile outlet. Even Best Buy would be much better. Of course, they are not available since DirecTV is what they push.
Problem is, it's almost impossible to contact a real knowledgeable person in Marketing, Engineering, etc.
The CSR's are nice and courteous but they don't know squat.

--Voom and Sears:
Sounds to me like Voom has been on a fishing
trip, and never bothered to put some bait on the hook.
I like Voom and I enjoy HD very much. If you don't
bother to bait the hook, you will never catch any fish
