[VOOM] Re: Reconnecting Voom Receiver

If someone hasn't come to your aid by this evening I'll dig behind my
equipment rack and tell you what goes where. I think we have one
cable coming from the sat/OTA into one connection but then we use a
diplexer.

The OTA connects into the grey module plugged in to the receiver. The sat line connects to the one with the dish.

I finally plunged and bought a rack system for all my AV equipment
(no more TV tray based equipment racks) and needed to disconnect and
reconnect all my equipment. Either I cannot remember exactly where
the cable from the dish goes into the back of the Voom receiver or
I've got a malfunctioning system.

Since the manual leaves out the important part about the OTA antenna
and the sat dish connections, would some please verify for me the
following:

The coax connector with the large picture of a satellite dish is
indeed where the connection from the dish connects.

and

The coax connection to the left of the dish connection, above the
digital output (RCA type) jack is where the OTA antenna connects.

Curious about the connection on the far right of the box, as you are
facing it, under the plastic "bump". What is that connection for?
Thanks!

msteinabc,

The coax connector with the large picture of a satellite dish is for the dish, as you guessed. However, the OTA antenna connector is not on the left, it is on the RIGHT (on the OTA module). (These two connectors might be covered by an attached diplexer, in which case you will see just one connector.)

The coax connection to the left of the dish connection, above the digital output is not for OTA! It is actually for an RF remote!

The slot on the right side is for future hardware upgrades (e.g for MPEG4-WMV9 decoders).

For pictures and further details please check my VOOM STB FAQ at SatelliteGuys.us

Good luck!

[VOOM] Re: Reconnecting Voom Receiver

Thanks! That is a very helpful FAQ. I determined that the issue
was with my Monster power filter system. Went right from the wall to
the VOOM STB on the sat connection and all is back to normal. Thanks
for all the help! VOOM Group Participants ROCK!

To use a filter, your surge protector will need to have a choice for either "cable" or "sat". I to made a mistake and plugged it into the "cable" filter and had trouble. All is working fine when I switched it to the "sat" input.

[VOOM] Re: Reconnecting Voom Receiver

The connection under the bump on the right of the rear panel is for
your OTA connection, the "bump" is the slide in OTA module. On some
sets the installer may have used a diplexer which will look like a 1"
X 2" tin box attached to the back of the receiver on the right side
of the rear. The diplexer allows both the OTA antenna and the
Satelite dish feed from the LNBF to come into the house on the sme
coaxial cable. I do not recommend that diplexers be used. Two
seperate feed cables are better for system stability.
Without the diplexer in place the OTA cable goes to the OTA module on
the right side, the LNBF ( Sat dish) cable goes to the connector with
the dish symbol, and the connector above the dish connector that has
an antenna symbol by it is used for a UHF remote antenna. This
function is not available at this time with your remote or the
receiver. Future additional capability is what VOOM says. The info
is available soemwhere on the Satellite Guys forum.

bgrodie, just a small correction: VOOM currently doesn't offer RF remotes, but that RF input is active and fully operational. We have several reports from people successfuly using it with third-party RF remotes. You can also replace a battery in the VOOM remote with a product called "The Remote Range Extender" and this will turn your current VOOM remote into an RF remote! Just for everyone's information...

Good point you make. I was aware that the remote extender is avaialble but
don't know very much about it. Any idea what it costs and how it works? Or
what website might?
