for satellite service in the just out December issue of Sound &
Vision magazine. They list all of their top choices for gear for the
year. Not a huge article on Voom, but they are very complimentary.

They must be talking about quality of HD, not billing pbms, hardware bugs
and empty promises..

[VOOM] Re: Voom receives reviewers choice award

I know. He used to be Voom's #1 fan.

It amazes me how much people still whine about Voom. I have always
been happy with it- from my install back in January of this year til
now. A few bugs here and there, but they got fixed right away.
Granted, I only watch TV maybe 4 times a week, but I see more and
more content choices each time I turn Voom on. They are showing A
LOT more movies now, and ones that are worth watching. Other content
continues to improve as well.

IT'S TV, PEOPLE. If little things like a DVR or 39 vs. 37 HD
channels ruin your day, then you all really need to get a life.

get to watch those when they were broadcast. :p

RE: [VOOM] Re: Voom receives reviewers choice award

I still have Voom today and very much enjoy the HD selection that I get
between the satellite and the OTA antenna. Unfortunately w/o a DVR, I miss a
lot of the shows I'd like to watch, have to arrange my life schedule hoping
I get done what I need to get done and get to watch my favorite shows. Being
a single dad to a teenager (been raising her on my own for 10 years) and
having work commitment's, I don't have the luxury to ignore life's
responsibilities and sit in front of my tv 24x7.

The decision to stay with Voom or go back to cable was put on the forefront
when my local cable company released their hd-dvr for $12+ a month. In line
with my earlier comments, I also don't have cash to burn on a $1000 dtv-dvr
or dish-dvr and my desktop home computer isn't strong enough to handle a dvr
pci card.

So the bottom line is yes, I enjoy Voom's HD offerings but I'm tired of
waiting and except for sci-fi and usa back in september, what new channels
has voom released recently? nada. < 30,000 subscribers in a year, raising
prices typical of a cable company.. man there is just too much writing on
the walls not to have a negative outlook on Voom.

I'm trying my best to stick with them but it's harder and harder as each day
goes by. I honestly suspect by 12/31/04 if they don't release their DVR (or
if they do and it's priced out of this world), then I'll be going back to
cable.. and I won't be happy about it!

Last.. since I've made pretty much all negative comments thus far, I will
say that in reference to Voom's SD channels, MsNbc, Foxnews, Usa and a few
others sometimes look as good as HD. I know MsNbc and Foxnews are now
broadcasting in digital instead of analog so that probably has something to
do with it, but they look GREAT and if I go back to cable I will have that
to not look forward to as cable's sd channels are awful.
