Wally as DVR

Thinking about getting Wally for use in RV. Would like DVR capability, mostly for pausing/rewinding live TV.

I have a 1TB USB disk that I used with a 722 before getting an H3 at home. Can I just plug it in to the Wally, format, and go? Or do I have to follow the instructions on the dish site and call in? And presumably pay a one-time fee?

I've been reviewing the pertinent threads here but they seem inconsistent.

Wally is treated like a 211 it requires a $40 fee and does not produce recordings that can be viewed on Hopper or VIP receivers.

No, and you can probably get a comparable hard drive cheaper elsewhere.
