Can anyone recommend a good webhosting service? Just looking for a service to horse around it.. not too expensive and reliable.

Cheers, K

Just checked Godaddy... it can easilly add up to 10$ a month (4$ for the hosting, 3$ for email service.. another 3$ for SSL security)...

We have our business hosted at 1&1 and don't have any complaints. Their site show a personal website for $4.99 a month.

I guess the question is if you need all those services?

You do get SSH access with godaddy. I use it so I can secure FTP files in and you can also tunnel through your server to the outside world for those occasions when you need a VPN (like when on free WiFi, or overseas and need a US ISP).

I use SiteGround. You can get the first 3 years for 3.95/month and the hosting cost includes the cost of your domain name if you get it from SiteGround and don't bring it with you (you own it and can take it with you.) After the introductory period, the price changes to $6.95/month for 3 years, 7.95/month for 2 years and $8.95/month for 1 year. The price includes email accounts. I have several Joomla sites and they really understand Joomla.

I start digging into this stuff sometimes and then give up annoyed thinking it should be easier. I guess I'm picky/needy because I'd want to just throw Confluence up for self-instruction/learning purposes as well as a way to publicly access it and share what I've learned.

I suppose best way to do that is either to pay whatever it would take to do it on an EC2/AWS account, or do all my learning locally and blog about it on Wordpress/Tumblr or something.

What is Confluence? http://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence/overview/team-collaboration-software

System requirements: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/System+Requirements

For general webhost stuff, we've had hostmonster for years with few if any complaints.

Not that we've done much with it... http://elstevo.com/, http://www.kahayden.com/, http://www.michaeljhayden.com/drupal/
