Does anybody know for sure if this drive will work with a HR44-500 receiver?
From what I've been reading not all eSATA drives will work.
The Genie drive may be failing and I have a chance to pick this drive up fairly cheap.

I have the same one on my HR24 and it works fine. The suffix on mine is 00. Does yours only record Red Sox games?

Yep, I found a site that had the 24 as working with it but the 44 wasn't listed.

Unless I was wrong in searching that model, it is a 1TB drive. The Genie has an internal 1TB drive, so why use the external?

If you drive isn't working that is an option, but generally DirecTV would replace a dying genie for $20 shipping.

Not quite that simple in my case. I wouldn't be paying much more than $20 for the drive. And then I'd always have the drive.

ok, just a reminder that if your receiver is ever replaced the content on the drive won't play on another, it is married to the receiver id.
