Hi. I just purchased an old house. I am installing Directv into that house. One of the things I am doing is having an electrician come out and among other things, wire my satellite to all the rooms. I am having him run 2 RG6 and 2 Cat6 to each room (3 rooms total, small house). What do I need in the basement? I don't want to rely only on what the electricians do, and I want to have my own idea of what I need. I know that there is some sort of control box that each feed goes into. What is that, and what do I need?

sorry if I sound overly uninformed :D

Sounds you are more informed then you think!

Just leave the tails in the basement the installer will put connectors on and ground the system. The only other thing that you may want to do (if necessary) is have the electrician run four RG6 feeds and a #10 solid copper feed to where the dish is to be mounted. Otherwise the installer will run them down the outside of your home.

Slightly OT, but does the messenger wire need to be solid core, or can it be stranded?
