What kind if encoder does the HR24 use?

I'm planning on moving my recordings to my Mac using EyeTV HD. It's similar to a Hauppage PVR and takes in the signal via component.

I'm trying to find out how EyeTV HD's encoder compares to the HR24's.

HR24 does not encode anything. it just saving the raw satellite stream which is encoded by dtv before sending it to the satellites in Mpeg2 (sd) or Mpeg4(hd) but the box it self does not do any encoding.
