Just recently ordered an upgrade from an old 625 and would like to know what remote comes with the standard Joeys? One of them is for my father in law and he is used to the older style remote which the 40.0 remote me of.

TIA

Usually a 52 or a 54 is packed with the Joeys. If you order from a local retailer you can usually get whatever remote you want. :)

or if you have a 40 remote handy, don't give it to the installer. It will work just fine with the Joey. It just needs to be paired and that is very simple.

I used a couple of UHF Pro 6.3's in IR mode and they work as well, minus the 4 color buttons. But my 54's don't have colored buttons either. It took me forever to turn off closed captioning which I somehow turned on by mistake.

You can program the two buttons next to the zero on 52 and 54 remotes to do several different things one of which is toggle closed captioning. I'd bet one of your buttons is programmed that way.

My double diamond button on the 54.0 remote turns on CC.

Aha! I'll bet I hit that one by mistake.

and then there is that microphone button on the 54 remote. Simply press it and say “closed captions on” or “closed captions off.”

I never agreed to the Google search thing... Can I still do that?

My remote is just like the one pictured above except it does not have the microphone in color, nor does it have the colored circles under the dish logo at the bottom. Does anyone know what model I have?

Does it have the microphone button, just not in color? If so it is a 54 remote just like the one pictured above. That one is just a newer version to look pretty and keep Google happy.

Yes, it has a microphone button located as above, just nothing is in color except a red outline around the select button like the one pictured. I guess it is the same thing as you say but just a newer "sexier" version.

Hello thomasjk. Here are the steps for you to go ahead and activate the google search on your system.
  1. On your DISH remote, press HOME twice or MENU once, depending on your remote
  2. Select Settings, then select Google Assistant
  3. Select the Set Up button under "Control DISH through a Google Assistant device"
  4. Select the Get Code button and make note of the code shown on screen for a later step
  5. On your mobile device, open the Google Assistant App
  6. Select your Google Account
Kepler A.

Mine isn't sexy either. I'm curious to see if Bobby is right about the voice commands to turn on/off closed captioning. I thought all voice commands became subsumed with Google Search integration, and if I don't agree to the terms and conditions, then I have no voice remote any longer.

Just try it, you might like it Mikey! :)

I tried it and it does not work. You have no voice remote any longer unless you agree to the Google Assistant terms. :( That includes voice control of closed captioning.
