i'm tempted to fire off an email because the installer who hooked up my tivo unit saturday morning put the multi-switch in the fricking cable box!!

the initial installer ran a couple of cables through the box (i'm the only apartment on the box and the only apartment that will ever be on that box).

after he left, i'm searching high and low and i finally follow the trail of the 2 white cables to the switch in the box. the lid won't even close now. he had to use a zip tie to secure.

i'm sure bright house would be more than a tad bit pissed. whenever, i move...somebody would have to remove the switch and i'm sure it won't be directv!! i really think they need to come out and move it!!!

I would not worry to much about it. However as you know some cable companys if they find out they freak out and go and cut it out, since it is their box. You know a lot more about bright house though than I do, they are nowhere near this area. If you think they will find it and, take aggressive actions, yeah you might ought to call and get it moved......it don't have to be in that box since the switch is weather proof, and long as the installer uses WP connectors.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the box on the house belongs to the homeowner and not the cable company. If they owned it, there would be no way for you to switch providers because they wouldn't have to let the new tech access the box.

The upstream side (going to the pole) belongs to the cable company, but the interface and downstream (going to the house) belongs to the homeowner.

i rent so i don't own the box.

a bright house guy told me last week that it wasn't uncommon for the satellite people to ``borrow'' the box and run cables through it. but i feel putting a huge switch was totally uncalled for!

There is nothing wrong with putting the switch in the box, it just seem more like you wanted to switch out so you could get to it for some reason. If it means that much to you just open it and move it out. It's only zip ties holding it on.

Yup if it's on the house it's belongs to the homeowner and whoever resides in the house. I removed my old cable splitters and put my OTA cable in mine.
