What's the difference between the dish 1000 & dish 1000.2?

Will be upgrading to the 722 & would like to know the proper dish for my location, which is about 20 miles south of Louisville, Ky

They are the same in they both receiver the 110, 119, & 129 locations.

They are different in size as the 1000.2 is larger. Also the 1000.2 uses a DPP LNB that will run 3 receivers so up to 6 tuners with seperators. The 1000 was set up to use seperate LNB's for the sat locations either 3 seperate LNB's, a twin and a dual + a switch, or a DPP Twin and a DP Dual.

I upgraded to HD two weeks ago. The installer replaced my Dish 500 with a 1000.2.

1000 isn't used anymore, the 1000.2 replaced the 1000 this past winter.
