Interesting theory that Comcast/TWC merger would make a big enough company to break the programmers and start a la carte. I wonder if Comcast planted the idea to help sell the merger to skeptics.

I still maintain that Dish/DIRECTV would suffer most from a la carte. Cable can have a base charge for internet service and could add channels for a few dollars since they already have the delivery system (cable modem, cable to the premises, etc) present. Dish/DIRECTV would have to have receivers, dishes and satellites to support this and if trying to compete on a few dollars would not be viable.
 
Ive say it in the streaming thread.. the WWE Network is the pioneer and begining of "a la carte" programming.
Tradition cable companies are going to go the route of the dodo bird
