Why is there no discussion on the subject of the MPEG4 replacement for the 942? Dosen't anyone have any info on the possible timeframe for the availability of this next generation DVR? Why is there no news on this move? Those of us who have been long-time Dish customers see little reason to pay $700 for a product that will be obsolete in the near-term, and are not being offered the same lease option afforded to new E* customers on the 942. We're stuck in no man's land!

The MPEG4 DVR will not be out until next year in late spring.

The only MPEG4 receiver that we will see soon is the 411. Which is a MPEG4 version of the 811.

It was announced on Charlie Chat that mpeg4 receivers and the 129 sat will be discussed on the Tech Forum (channel 101) on November 14th.

The big question is what HD channels will be encoded in mpeg4?

Talking to the dish reps at CEDIA, they said that the MPEG4 HD PVR will be available in the 1st qtr of 06. It will be mainly for HD locals in the top 10 markets. It will not be based on the 921 operating system(thank God) but will be based on the same platform as the 522 & 942. Replacements will go out for those people who benefit from the MPEG4 switch. The top 10 markets who receive HD locals through their receivers.

wow, there are no mpeg4 channels out yet and people already want the dvr, seems to me dish network is on top of things lately, so they know what they are doing, I just cant wait to get more HD
