I curious as to how DTV and DN obtain all of the "local" channels for rebroadcasting on their satellite networks? There have got to be hundreds of these channels. Do they do it via fiber, satellite, or IP?

There is over a thousand of those local channels.

Each channel is captured and transmitted via fiber to DIRECTV and DISH Network uplinks where they are broadcast out over the satellite.

The establish a local point of presence (POP). They receive some channels over the air using an antenna. Others they work out a deal with a fiber feed from the station itself. They take all the locals, compress them and send them via fiber to an uplink center which then sends them to the satellite.
