This article prior to the 2006 NFL Draft on the worst draft picks ever in any sport fascinated me.

ESPN.com: Page 2 : The 100 worst draft picks ever

Who are your choices for worst draft picks ever, or bad choices by your favorite teams?

(BTW, my Sabres and HD MM's Indians did NOT make the list)

BTW, I think it's safe to take #35 off the list.

IMO, Akili Smith, Heath Shuler, Rick Mirer, David Klingler, Andre Ware, and Kelly Stouffer all should have been up there with Ryan Leaf.

How about drafting Todd Blackledge when Dan Marino, Ken O'Brien and Tony Eason were still on the board.

I still get a kick out of reading the scouting reports on Marino. They said he made all his completions to receivers who were double and triple covered, but he'd never get away with that in the pros.

Didn't expect to see any Wings on there and I didn't.

Surprised the Lions are only on there 4 times.

How about Tony Mandrich? He never did anything in the NFL. I believe he was a 2nd overall pick too.

Name one instance where drafting an O-Lineman #1 turned out to be good. Ever.

Worst Picks by Cav's. What if....

In response to this topic, I examined the Cav's horrid draft picks previous to the Cavs getting the 1st lottery ball in the 2003 draft.....

Most of you know the LeBron James ERA Cavaliers, but don’t know the team prior to 2003. Led by a lousy GM (Jim Paxson) and an owner that didn’t know any better (Gordon Gund), this franchise wasn’t always in such good shape. Let me show you some awful picks that I wish we could’ve had back under the prior regime…….

2002
#6- Cavs select Dajuan Wagner instead of #9 Amare Stoudemire or #10 Caron Butler. We did however make up for the lousy first pick by snagging Carlos Boozer with our 2nd round pick. Don’t even start by asking how we let him get away….

2001
#8- Cavs select DeSagana Diop instead of #10 Joe Johnson, #28 Tony Parker or #31 Gilbert Arenas.

1996
We had two 1st round picks! #12 and #20. With the #12, we took Vitaly Potapenko instead of Kobe Bryant, Peja Stojakovi?, Steve Nash, Jermaine O'Neal. At #20, we took Zydrunas Ilgauskas, who proved to be a worthy pick at that spot, but I salivate at repicking at #12!

So hypothetically, if we scouted better, the Cavs could’ve had this current lineup.........:eek::eek::eek:

PG- Steve Nash/ Tony Parker
SG- Kobe Bryant/ Gilbert Arenas/ Joe Johnson
SF- LeBron James/ Caron Butler/ Peja Stojakovic
PF- Carlos Boozer/ Amare Stoudermire
C- Jermaine O’Neil/ Zydrunas Ilgauskas

-I think the above lineup could challenge the current Team USA! Can you imagine if we drafted better!? Even if the Cavs managed to keep half of these players, we would've have a dynasty for ages!

You talking #1 overall or just a first round selection?

If first round, Salsa and I got into quite a debate a few months back and I argued with overwhelming facts, that great offensive linemen come from the first round more so than any other position....

The first name that I thought of when I read this topic was Ryan Leaf. Then I saw he was #2 on the list. I remember some Colts fans that were upset when Manning was drafted over Leaf.

Worst pick ever = Len Bias. The Celtics took over 20 years to recover from that one.

Well in his defense he died before ever playing a game, granted it was his own fault.

The QB never had to worry about his left side, that's for sure.

Ramy,

Not to hijack this thread, but was Munoz there for both Kenny Anderson and Boomer? I know he was there for Esiason, but I can't recall if he was there for Anderson as well.

Yes, he played with Anderson for about 6 seasons or so.
