Why doesn't Adult Swim have its own channel number? I know it time shares with Cartoon Network and uses its channel number. Its kind of bad having more mature programs on a children's channel space..why could they not do what BBC 3 and CBBC do in the UK where CBBC is the children's channel with its own number until 8 in the evening then BBC 3 timeshares with it after 8 with its own channel number?. It would make it less likely for kids to watch more mature content..?

Turner has an agreement with the various systems for one channel (Cartoon Network). To split it, they'd have to renegotiate those contracts with each system that carries it.

Took forever for Nickelodeon to separate Noggin and TeenNick for the same reasons.

As for using the same channel and changing the number at a certain time, that would go against the limitations of many systems and likely not be technically feasible for many.
