Why in the world does DMV make you put you put your address on the license ?

if you are robbed, pick pocketed or raped the vandal now knows where to find you again.
all a cop needs is a license number to look up all your info. insane

I know what you're saying about cops not needing your address, but in a hundred different instances, other than a passport, a driver's license is considered the primary form of ID and for that reason needs your address on it. Personally, I'd prefer some form of universal photo ID card instead, but I know a lot of folks are against that. For all practical purposes that's what a driver's license is anyway.
