7 is plenty for us for the foreseeable future, fixed some issues some of our phones had in our congested environment. Will consider 8 in a couple years I'm sure when I need to swap out more APs. Happy to see the emphasis in reliability over speed for the next iteration of the standard.

Currently connected clients and their protocols in my house - none of the kids are home... add several more to this list:

We don't do WiFi at all - everything is hard wired here baby!
I have two Echos, an Ecobee thermostat and a cheap WIIM music streamer that are Wi-fi only. Everything else (including a Fire TV 4K stick) is wired. I tinker with an ESP32 module that is Wi-fi, but that's not something I use every day. My life does not revolve around devices and I admit that's fairly unusual.

I recently changed routers and getting everything set up with new SSIDs and credentials seemed onerous.

No, I don't buy the argument that I could run without security in order to make this problem go away and different router brands have different credentials requirements.

My important stuff is all ethernet. Most everything that can be upgraded is now 2.5 gigabit.

But with that said my router is showing I have 74 wireless devices now connected.

I have Wifi 7 and honestly the only devices I have that are Wifi 7 are iPhones and the Wifi 7 in the iPhone 16 Pro Max sucks, so my speed on Wifi 7 are the same and sometimes lower download speeds then my wifi 6 devices.

I read that WIFI 8 will not be about speed, but more about distance and reliability.

You're welcome to borrow mine 😁

Mine is Gooney Goo Goo, and then I'd increment it over the years whenever a router would fail and have to set a new one up. That's rarely happened w/ my Unifi hardware, so for the last decade it's been Gooney Goo Goo 9.

And here's this for anyone who doesn't get the reference.

Most everything that can be upgraded is now 2.5 gigabit.

I just started this work last week. Upgraded to a UCG Fiber so my gateway has a 10gb feed to my primary 2.5g switch, gaming PC and gaming server. Swapping out a switch this weekend and that work should be all done. My old setup w/ a Dream Machine Pro was limited to 1Gb.

My network is a bunch of expensive toys though.
