It looks like I'll be taking a trip to China in March. Unfortunately, I can't really cut myself off from the rest of the world for 2+ weeks (like China did for so many years *cheap Chinese joke*) Regular international calls from a land line from what I can tell aren't a practical method, and I have no idea what sort of internet access I'll have available. I have an AT&T World Phone, and even with their weird international plan, calls are $1.99 a minute, so I'm not sure if one of those calling cards would work with it. Any suggestions as to the best way to call out from a cell phone from overseas?

You may want to consider purchasing pre-paid sim from a local provider. I've had good luck doing that when traveling the Europe.

Make sure you call AT&T and get an unlock code for your phone before you leave, so you can use another provider's SIM. Test locally with a friends T-Mobile SIM before you head out.
