Yup the same. And I have used them both with the first gen and second gen access point without issue.

I don't give a D about android TV, not in the slightest. But does the WJ4 perform notably better than the J2 in terms of speed and UI? Bottom line, take away Android, would I be glad I got it?

Yes for the most part. However the trick play however is not as fast.
