Anybody know the reason that Dish hasn't turned on the HD feed of this channel? It is currently only broadcast by Dish in SD. It is the only "big" network for Chattanooga that is still in SD. DirecTV has it in HD.

It I understand correctly, they mean that the station will not pay to run fiber for Dish, and if Dish will install an antenna and get the feed from there to their uplink center they can have the signal. Could be wrong, but that would be my interpretation.
ABC and Dish
I saw an announcement on WTVC Channel 9 today that said that Dish may drop their SD signal and for all Dish customers to contact Dish to complain. Why does FOX, NBC, and CBS not have a problem with Dish but ABC Chattanooga does?

It's part of the Freedom Communications group which has been having contract disputes with E* over retransmission. It isn't the only Freedom station affected. I suspect they are demanding a rate E* is refusing to pay. That's the usual scenario.
Freedom has never been in HD on Dish.
I do have their mailing address available in the retrans consent noticeboard (dishuser.org/News/retrans.php) if anyone wants to write. Other affected stations include WWMT, WRGB, WPEC, and WLAJ.

I emailed Mike Costa at WTVC to see if he had any more information, he sent this in return:

I haven't heard anything more. I have a note to email Mike Costa again at the end of August. Not having an ABC HD affiliate is going to be hell come college football season. 
I have no idea, I emailed Mike again two days ago, but he hasn't replied back. The first time I contacted him, I got a reply back within 20 minutes. Possibly he's ignoring me because he's tired of hearing about it.
Not to thread hijack but you guys seem pretty knowledgable about the local/sat stuff. Do you also know why there is no ABC (SD or HD) in the Albany Ga DMA? I have not came across anything in a search in the past.
Nobody has constructed a station in that DMA subscribing to ABC programming.
Maybe with digital multi-casting one of the current digitals will pick it up as a sub-channel.

Less than 2 weeks until the start of College Football season. I have now tried emailing 11 people from WTVC, and after 2 weeks, I haven't gotten a response from any of them. Guess they can't be bothered with my wants.

There is some evidence (not confirmed) that Dish may have reached an agreement with the new management at freedom corp. So it may be coming! Now, the old CEO is at Playboy, so there may be future issues with porn on E* ;>

I confirmed with Mr Costa today that this is now in Dish Networks hands. An agreement has been reached that allows Dish to access and utilize the HD signal from WTVC.
