YouTube TV Drops Disney’s ABC, ESPN and Other Networks After Two Sides Fail to Reach New Deal

While the service is good, best amongst streamers IMO, I will be looking at alternatives.

As the two negotiate over a new carriage agreement, fees, and terms, Disney's Hulu + Live TV has quietly extended its fall promo for new and eligible returning subscribers: 3 months of Hulu + Live TV (with ESPN Unlimited & Disney+) for $64.99 per month for three months (regularly $89.99).

Cord cutters looking to make a switch and enjoy over 95 live channels, unlimited DVR, and the stacked bundle of ESPN/Disney, a savings of roughly $75 over three months is a short-term deal worth taking. You'll want to act fast, as this deal has been extended through Tuesday, November 18, at 12:00 PM ET.

I decided to cancel my subscription before renewal comes up early next week. I keep paid live tv for one reason, and that is live sports.

Being a Bama fan, having these channels is the key reason for having it. I am not confident that the dispute will be resolved before the next billing date.

While the service is good, best amongst streamers IMO, I will be looking at alternatives.


What I did find kind of humorous is when I went to cancel, its not uncommon to be offered a discount, or at the least a pop up that asks if you are sure.

I got none of that. Cancel? yes.

Disney gains you as a sub (ESPN is on Disney) and the opposition loses (YTTV) ...

Thats a Win/ Win for Disney.

Fwiw, I'm with YTTV on this one, they are the ones that pass the channels along to the Sub .... all those people complaining about YTTV are barking up the wrong tree.
Disney took the channels down, Not YTTV .... which is the way it is in Most cases, but sub all think its the person they are paying that is at fault.
Of course if your getting the channel directly from Disney for example, it's different.

Of course if your getting the channel directly from Disney for example, it's different.
Personally I dont care who it benefits, or who took them down.

I cant watch them with YTTV at the moment, if that is the fault of the man in the moon, makes me no difference.

I will get them elsewhere. I will say if they get them back up, I will sign back up to YTTV at that point.

agree. the blame game and politicking does the end user no favors. we just want a resolution and in 2 months, when this is resolved, none will remember who's fault it was.

For me, I've come to realize i could cancel YTTV and any streaming now, if I could just get NBC Sports Bay Area and watch the Warriors/Giants.

Your taking your frustration out on the wrong people.

What would you do if the company (Disney ) in this case took ESPN OFF the Air entirely ... as in not available Anywhere ?

Then you would be pissed at the right people.

Of course, this is entirely why people get held for hostage .... and they would have no negotiations to be done IF they were not available elsewhere ...

So, when you see the prices go up one a Direct to Customer network, its purely because of them, themselves.

Again, you too would be blaming the wrong person ... the Parent company Loves it when people don't understand .

I will repeat it for the 100x. I believe this is the plan. We have all the content in just a few hands now. They can slowly put everyone out of business because they hold the content. Then your forced to get it only one place. Then they can control the price and eliminate the middle man!

I am not taking frustrations out on anyone. I am going elsewhere to watch what I am willing to pay for.

Then the SEC would be on another channel. I would watch it on whatever they were on. I have no loyalty to ESPN, they simply have the rights to air the games I want to watch.

Prices are going to go up no matter what. When is the last time any of these companies lowered the monthly fee and kept it so?

I dont watch much live tv at all. The ONLY thing I do watch is live sports in general, live SEC sports in particular. You seem to be saying, just dont watch, but also keep paying for the only thing you do watch, when you cant watch it.

Who wins or loses in these disputes, that really doesnt concern me. Its YTTV having it this week, it will be another one later.

We promised to keep you updated on our negotiations with Google's YouTube TV following their decision last week to pull our channels from their service, and we are writing today with the latest. We realize this has been a challenging week, with everyone asking the same question as millions of YouTube TV subscribers during the busiest time of the year in sports: When will ESPN and ABC be back on the service? We wish we could give you that answer today, but unfortunately, we are headed into another sports-packed weekend without a deal in place.

We know you've seen a swirl of information about the impasse, so we wanted to share some of the facts:

We began these negotiations by offering YouTube TV a deal that would cost less overall than the terms of our recently expired license. That's real savings that YouTube TV could pass along to its customers. We've offered innovative, bespoke programming packages—tailored to sports fans, entertainment fans, kids and families—that would provide tremendous flexibility for YouTube TV and greater choice and value for its customers. We've offered fair terms that are in-line with the more than 500 other distributors that have renewed their agreements since last summer, including the top distributors, who are far larger than YouTube TV. Despite all this, YouTube TV continues to insist on receiving preferential terms that are below market and has made few concessions. Rather than compete on a level playing field, Google's YouTube TV has approached these negotiations as if it were the only player in the game. It goes without saying that the reason so many consumers value our programming above others is because we invest in the best talent, creators and content in the world, and we cannot allow anyone to undercut our ability to do so.

We know how difficult this situation is for the YouTube TV customers we serve, and for all of you who provide the sports programming, entertainment, news and live events that our fans know and love. Thank you for the incredible work you do each and every day and for staying focused on maintaining such a high bar throughout this difficult situation.
