VOOM is definitely gone, the next court date is 10/23 for a compliance conference. So it is safe to say, VOOM will not be coming back to Dish unless they win during the upcoming trial later in the year.

I'll bet the number of customers dropping from Ultimate to Essentials over the last few months were quite high. Thus aiding this decision to drop Voom.
I could totally see even more people dropping from ultimate to essentials now that the package has experienced a net loss of 12 channels (15 dropped, 3 added). If they don't add more channels to the ultimate package soon, I'll probably be one of them.

Voom should have just said yes to being moved to a tier. It may cost them the whole enchilada now. I would fork over an extra $5-$10/month in a heartbeat to keep them.

this does not answer the question...that is a completely statement coming from the litigation which has yet to be done. How does he know that they said no to 5 channels that is my real question to mike and now you since you decided to answer my question with an absolute no answer.

Me too! How do they justify 10.00 for the ultimate pack now? I am not a very happy person. Equator was one of my favorite channels. Just like that ... it is gone!

It only took them 24 hours to drop 15 hd channels but it took them months to add 22 mixed HD/SD channels. Fuzzy math 22-15 =7 new channels.

Dish: worst company in the history of the entertainment industry.

Well that is a little too drastic even for me. I have to think this has to do with the term of the contract, terminating the contract means terminating the contract. My guess is VOOM in the last minute communication with DISH told Charlie to forget it, no 5-channel deal.

i will miss Rave and Monsters-Rave was a awesome music channel with lots of great concerts and the new season of Jools Holland in HD. I would pay for that channel and monsters ala carte

mike how do you know this? You keep saying this. How do you know?

Do I have inside knowledge? No. But, it seems fairly obvious. It takes Dish a couple minutes to turn off channels. There is no reason to go to all the trouble to change the web site to take off 10 channels and leave 5 up. Not to mention turning off 10 and leaving 5 up for 1 day. Then having to go update the web site again.

One would speculate (yes speculate) based on reading of the lawsuit, Dish wanted tiered VOOM. VOOM said no (and sued). When Dish won the ruling they told VOOM they wanted to carry just 5 channels and tier them or no VOOM on Dish. They updated the web pages, added the new HD (well HD in name) channels, did the swap, sent out email to all the HD customers, etc. They send out retailer emails explaining they dropped the unpopular channels. This would be a very strong signal that they were only going to carry 5 channels. VOOM had to have said no to the arrangement for them to turn around 24 hours later and take down the rest of the channels. They obviously must have said no before the conference call where Charlie Ergan said VOOM was going to go away completely.

It is just way too much work to do a 2 phased drop of channels 24 hours apart if there was not negotiations going on in the background.
