MLB Network

So your saying that when MLBN was added as gravy to the EI deals, it was also said that no provider would be able to carry MLBN UNLESS they had EI...is that what you are saying?

No - I'm not saying it was gravy. It is part of the negotiated contract. The companies that signed on originally (and DISH had a chance to do so) are PART-OWNERS of MLB Network as well. Just take the time to read and educate yourself, the contract info has been posted 5 or 6 times in this thread alone.

Who said there is a lack of sub interesting in MLB channel? If you're making reference to any of my commentary, lets be clear about it.

I was not referring to your commentary. I was actually referring to the comment made in Fitzie's post #33 as follows:

"I recall Charlie E. talking about this issue on one of the Charlie Chats last year. His comment, as I recall, was that there wouldn't be enough regular watchers to justify the bandwidth for the MLB channel."

I have e-mailed Dish twice at Customer Service concerning MLB Network and Extra Innings, received replies both times saying your request will be forwarded to programmimg director. Haven't heard anything further. Also sent the MLB Network website request twice to Dish requesting MLB Network, no response. As a 129.00 sub to Dish you would think I would get a response, get lost , kiss my ---, or something

But they do carry the NHL Network, right? lol.

I did. I recall the 'strike zone' channel being avialable. But I do not recall anyone saying it 'would not' be available otherwise. Are you saying that its implied or was there something in there specifically stating such that I missed...

On a side note...do you think I should go all out for the current HR-20 or wait for the Tivo version?

OT, but I prefer the HR20 over my TiVO by a lot. That is just me. I have no idea what the new TiVo's would offer.

You tell me if the following is implied or specific:

In a deal that may be copied by other sports league owned channels, MLB tied carriage of the MLB Network to the ability to carry the popular out of market MLB Extra Innings package. In return, cable and satellite providers were offered a minority share of the new network.

the NHL Network isnt contingent of agreeing to carry NHL CI though ;)

as a hockey fan, I love NHL Network :)
He was replying in reference to the number of regular viewers and wasting bandwidth comment by Charlie. With MLB being more popular than the NHL, one would assume that the MLB network would have more viewers than the NHL network. Thus if it is a waste of bandwidth due to the lack of viewers for the MLB network, then couldn't the same thing be said for the NHL network?

My comment was just in response to the mention Charlie made that the MLB network wouldn't have enough viewers to merit bandwidth. I am not knocking the NHL channel, but will bet any amount that the baseball network will have far higher ratings than the hockey network.

BINGO!

Neither, its a press release, not a contract...

Either way, it certainly doesn't implicate MLB from my blame here, since all along they were dictating the terms. The vagaries here are whether or not it was made clear that ONLY carriers of EI could carry MLBN. You can tie one deal to another deal any way you look at it, but that in no way shape or form implies that those those deals in terms of being available; all or nothing, are mutually exclusive.

But it probably doesn't matter, its just another E* fiasco...

well for fun I checked a few cable companies here in MN to see if they had both MLB Ch & EI

Comcast (big one in Minneapolis)...yep
Charter (Big one outside of Minneapolis...pretty much most of the state)....yep
Mediacom...nope (neither)
I checked even a couple podunk companies like ones that are through a Telephone company. The ones that have MLB Channel have EI listed as an option and the ones who don't have EI dont have MLB Channel

So I guess it is a contract...dont carry EI...dont get MLB Channel

If its packaged with, thats one thing...if its not being made availabe too 'after the fact', thats another...doesn't necessarily exonerate MLB either way....

My only point was hinged upon who knows what and when...but I guess thats irrelevant.

E* isn't offering it, by MLBs firm hand or by E* stupidity...it doesn't matter...

exactly...it was pretty much set out 2 years ago

Carry MLB EI or you dont get MLB Channel when it becomes available.

And Dish made the decision for us

thats not what I said...

Did Dish make that decision then? Or MLB now?

Nothing has been stated other than MLBN would be gravy to EI...nothing of an exclusive arrangement one way or another...

Like I said, if tis only 'implied', thats not saying much...

If you are going to edit your post after someone responds...please put "edit:" where the edit is ;)

well MLB's firm hand said "you have to carry MLB EI to be able to get MLB Channel"....damn there must be a echo here

what do you mean now? This was agreed to TWO years ago

where has it said that it was "gravy". The press releases that have been posted here numerous times (I guess you have selective vision) state pretty cut and dry
"to gain access to MLB Channel you MUST carry MLB EI...In turn, your company is part owner of the channel". Dish passed on EI and there fore they don't get MLB Channel

I guess if you spin the same thing so many times, people might believe you huh?
