The Walking Dead on AMC

Pretty sure Bob had a zombie scratch, just enough to infect him, thats why he was acting so sad.

I know that this is Walking Dead ,but on Z -Nation on Syfy they deal with Zombies the same way as Walking Dead. The virus is inside everyone and if you die you turn. So for all old people who are ready to go ,they give them "mercy" and shoot them in the head to kill them. They also say they are giving zombies mercy if they shoot them in the head.

As for the cannibals , they dealt with that a few weeks back. The only way they could eat humans, was one piece at a time and keep the human alive while they ate his body parts. Because if they kill him or her ,they turn into a zombie, so their flesh also turns making the meat not consumable. So all the humans were tied up and bandaged and kept alive with I.V.s so they could eat their body parts one piece at a time.

Now on Walking Dead , they did not seem to have this problem. They cut the guys throats in front of a trough and then cut them up like cattle. So my question is why didn't the humans they killed in that scene not turn to zombies ? Why wouldn't the meat made from them not turn zombie as well? Maybe if they cut their head off entirely , I could see maybe the flesh wouldn't turn . But to just cut their throats ,wouldn't seem to me , to prevent the zombie virus from being activated.

It must be linked to the brain or brain stem. I presume after slashing their throats, and not too long after, they begin the dismemberment process and one of the first to go is the head (brain). Doing that may stop the process (??).

Nonetheless, the folks at Terminus have been doing this for a while and have it figured out....

You also have to figure that the zombies are decomposing which makes them unfit to eat(rotten flesh). On Z-Nation they change instantaneously once they die where on the Walking Dead there is some time that passes before they change.

I've never read the comics, but I suspect Father Gabriel was helping the Terminus cannibals in some way, even if it was just directing people to go there, fattening them up first with a little canned food perhaps. There's no way a guy like that survives in this kind of world for 18+ months without some kind of protection. At any rate, it's obvious now that Gareth knows of his church and is accustomed to "hunting" there.

No,Father Gabriel did something else wrong. He is supposed to become a major character if they follow the comics.

I seem to remember when Rick shot Shane ,his former best friend and partner, and killed him in the field , it was a minute or two before he turned in to a zombie and Rick had to kill him again. So the scene in the first episode this season, where they were all in front of the trough seemed to go on more than two minutes. The guy on the table ,(that they said was Gareth's brother-according to Talking Dead) didn't turn either ,but I do remember Gareth saying " let them turn." Also When Carol was in the prison last season ,she was telling Lizzie and her sister that they had to stab their recently departed father in the brain , before he turned. So I wonder how long it is supposed to take before they turn into a zombie? Maybe if we had some history ,like from the CDC episodes , that explained how long it took. I remember the CDC doc showing brain scans and the areas of the brain activated with the virus. I just can't remember how long it takes. Either way in that scene with the Trough , they would have to cut their heads off quickly, unless the meatier portions of the body would turn to zombie too. They should of just beheaded them instead of cutting their throats to be efficient. Having to knock in the head with a bat and then cut their throats and then behead them is a 3 step process . They could of cut it down to just one step and saved time and used a large samuri sword and swooop.... off with their heads. But, that wouldn't have been as shocking .

That's what the bat to the back of the skull was for prior to the throat slit. They damaged the brain first, preventing the zombie transformation.

Andrea's sister (Amy ?) took a while to turn. As I recall, Andrea was laying next to her and actually fell asleep. "Jim", from season 1, at the original camp, got bit and suffered for hours (or was it days ?). The two women (and young girl) that the governor ended up with, when their dad died, they left him in his bed for a while until the governor asked how long he'd been dead. Those examples were on the longer side, not minutes like with Shane.

Now, the bat-swinger at Terminus turned pretty quickly - they showed him coming after Rick and the others and that sequence (in real time) couldn't have taken more than 5-10 minutes.

There's simply no "rule" or consistency.

I think the CDC guy said minutes to several hours--Amy took all night. Jim wasn't dead, but sick with a bite. They left him tied to a tree. He would have died, then turned.

I know you didn't go into too much detail but can we please not post details like this from the comics? I know the show doesn't follow them exactly but many of the big story beats are straight from the books. I think most of us would rather read the books or watch the show for ourselves to see what happens than read about it here.

It's fun to come to this thread to discuss the current episodes but I always hesitate to do it because I don't want to read spoilers from the books. Garyd is the first and only person I've ever put on ignore for that very reason.

I've gotten to the point that I don't care what happened or happens in the comics (based on what others post or my son tells us). It's simply 50/50 that what happens there will happen in the show.

I only know because I had to look it up. I obviously am not going to say what he did wrong(let it play out on the show),but it's like game of Thrones & the books, sometimes both shows follow what's in the comics/books,sometimes they don't. I only knew about Gabriel because i was looking up the cannibals on Wikipedia, which is where I get my info on both the Walking Dead comics & Game of Throne's books(I like to cheat:biggrin).

Last February a separate TWD thread was created for those who read the comics and want to discuss the TV show in that light. It seems to have dropped to the fifth page of threads in this forum. I'd bump it, but I'm reluctant to read past the first post.

REALLY? A bop on the head prevents the brain from transforming. Where did you get that idea from? Did they mention that somewhere and I missed it? Or are you just suggesting that ?
