PS4 Owners Thread

Firmware 2.50 is in Beta and will finally add the ability to put the system in rest mode with apps running (like the Vita, I imagine). It will also allow controller button assignment and the ability the to delete games from the user's trophy list that have 0% progress, among other things. The update should be out within the next month.

Uncharted 4 has been pushed back to Spring 2016. They claim that it's because "the scope has increased and they want to tell the story properly," but honestly, I think Jim Sterling here nailed it on the head as to what is REALLY responsible for the delay..

Agreed. But I'm not really seeing any complaints (other than a bit of disappointment) about the delay or the inevitable Uncharted HD collection. This could be the first generation where release delays are welcomed as good news, given all the broken games we've seen thus far. Perhaps Naughty Dog realized that maybe they should (and could) make Uncharted 4 look like it did in the 2014 E3 tease trailer.

Yeah, I don't know if this delay was for an Uncharted Collection. The Last of Us had a pretty big delay too so Naughty Dog has some history with this. Everyone rightfully bashes companies like Ubisoft and 343 when they release a broken product. In my eyes you can't really complain about broken games and still complain about delayed games though. If you don't want games to come out broken you should be fine with developers admitting that they need more time to finish them.

I have no problem with developers delaying their game to try and avoid situations like the Master Chief Collection and AC Unity. I wish more developers would take the time they need to get it right instead of getting the game out in time for holiday sales at all costs. I have plenty of games to play in the meantime while I wait for them to finish Uncharted.

Edit: I actually would like to see an Uncharted Collection because I still haven't played 2 or 3 yet and my PS3 has already been disconnected. I do plan to play them before Uncharted 4 comes out and I will hook my PS3 back up if necessary.

As many times as I've played all three Uncharted games (U1 - 6 times; U2 - 4+ times; U3 - 3 times), I would gladly play the series again assuming the remastered versions are enough of an upgrade. I just don't know if I would pay for it. Thankfully PS Plus has become the home away from home for remastered versions of older games.

Attention all PSN account holders. Apparently, PSN account support sucks. This guy (and some others) share their horror stories with stolen accounts. Basically you have no good recourse if your account is compromised.

Thanks for the link. As if the Sony hack of 2011 wasn't enough of a red flag, there has never been any good reason to have a credit card connected to your PSN wallet. This further proves it. Now I'm wondering whether I should also unlink my PayPal account and use PSN credits purchased on Amazon or other third party sellers exclusively.

I should double check that I've unlinked my credit card. I had one on file but it long expired and I think I just never updated it. But ever since the hack I've just been using PSN cards to fund my purchases (the few I've made.)

The lack of 2-step authentication is bad enough, but the idea that if you dispute the charge your account gets banned is COMPLETE BS. I'm pretty damn sure you could take that one to court. I fail to see how being punished for disputing a charge that isn't your fault is not against some sort of consumer protection laws.

Yeah, I would be livid if they tried to do that to me. I easily have $1000+ of games tied to my PSN account between PS Plus games and purchases I've made on PS3, PS4, and Vita. If They banned my account I would lose access to all of it.

Banning is a pretty standard practice when you dispute charges, the changes need to happen elsewhere in this story. Sony is basically saying they're keeping $450, you disagree and dispute and they eliminate your service as a result. The problem is with their decision or inability of the rep to refund.

You would think that the six-month timeframe to reactivte a PS4 is enough proof/dis-incentive that someone isn't giving their account info to a friend, only to turn around and claim a hack and demand a full refund for the purchased content. It seems Sony wants it both ways. On the other hand, they did offer to refund $150, which is the max amount you can have in your wallet. Sony just isn't willing to put a full cash refund directly on his credit card.

Well hopefully this will be a wake up call to Sony to change their practices. They paid royally over the data breach years ago and their service is CONSTANTLY under attack, and somehow I doubt even after their last major breach they're finally at a good place.

Still, the real morale of this story is, don't trust Sony with your credit card information.

My PSN on my kids PS4 somehow got deactivated and reactivated on another PS4 about a month ago. At first Sony refused to clear it and let me reactivate since it had been under 6months since I did a web deactivation (due to a dead console). I complained to a couple levels higher and they finally relented to a reset for me. I changed mu password. Fortunately nothing was charged but I did remove my card from the system.

They do have an option now that requires a pin/password to make a purchase.

Apparently disputing a charge with PayPal will get you banned too, this from member rolltide1017 at AVS:

They'll still ban your account if you dispute a charge through PayPal, it happened to me last year.

I added $50 to my PSN using Paypal but, 2 days later the money had still not shown up in my PSN account. So, I went and added another $50, which immediately showed up. Called Sony to get a refund for the first charge that never showed up, Sony rep said they only saw one charge, the one just made, so they could not refund anything. The Sony rep told me to dispute it with Paypal. So, that's what I did.

A few days later Paypal refunded the money, about a week later my PSN account was banned. When I called Sony they said it was because I disputed a charge with Paypal and the only way to unlock my account was to send them a certified check for $50. I tried explaining the whole situation about the money never showed up in my PSN account and that one of their reps told me to dispute it with Paypal. They didn't care and wouldn't budge, pay the money or never access my account again. So, I sent them the money because I didn't want to lose my account but, I felt like I was ripped off by Sony, I was out $100 instead of the $50 I originally wanted to spend (and of course, that second $50 was never added to my account, just a bonus for Sony I guess).

Since then, I don't trust Sony with any of my info, even Paypal. I only buy digital codes from Amazon or cards from other stores. When my 360 account was hacked and stolen years ago, MS had everything resolved and fixed within a few days. Sony just blames the customer and demands the money. I love my PS4 but Sony customer service is the worst I've ever dealt with, and I've dealt with AT&T and Comcast before.

I started taking advantage of this the first time I was notified of this option. I think I'm required to re-input my password to confirm even "purchases" of free content. Of course, if someone has your password, it won't help until you change it.

Perhaps Ernestine is the head of the customer service department at Sony..

This has always annoyed me about Sony's Digital Downloads...

Why are they transferring the original files along with the update file? Wouldn't it make more sense to just have an updated file and transfer that as opposed to the old, outdated file with the update to follow? Also, why are these update files so big? These are relatively small games, but their update files are more akin to what I'd expect in a Triple-A open world game, not a reboot and an indie game. I'm pretty sure that Microsoft doesn't do this same stuff with their Live service, and Valve most certainly doesn't do this.

Another day, another remastered game that no one asked for..

I love how it's the 10th anniversary and they end up showing more clips from the previous GoW games than they do the third one. The only way I'd be on board for this would be if they released all the games remastered as a trilogy. I mean, who is this game tailored for? Most PS4 owners played the original games on past gen systems, and if you're NOT familiar with the series and didn't play them, why would you jump on the last installment of the trilogy? You won't know what's going on except what you're told through very brief cutscenes, and let's face it, GoW 3's story was by FAR the weakest. At that point in the series Kratos essentially became a parody of himself. Something tells me this will be on PS+ for free within 9 months of release day.

Now, if they went and did a big remastering of ALL the God of War games (including the 2 PSP and Ascension) and threw them into one big package and let you play through them chronologically, that'd be pretty damn sweet. $60 for 6 GoW games would be awesome.
