You need to change the remote frequency. To do this you need to bring up the system info screen, then press the record button on the remote. This should change the remote address on the screen to match your remote.

what type of tv do you have? some hd tv's have a setting in the menu for light sensor and it will block some ir remote signals. if you disable this setting your remote will work.

Here in NC we can mount the 1000+ on the roof. Granted it is bigger and weighs more, but the mast comes with struts to add support for the dish. I have mounted dozens on roofs and no problems.
