Folks,

After reading this thread, some confusion exists. The Diplexer is the small
box attached to the back of the STB. The Diplexer unify the two
coaxial cables from the Voom dish and the OTA antenna to one STB
connection. The Voom dish is powered by the STB. The Power Inserter is the small coupling with the AC cord attached. The Power Inserter provides AC current to the OTA amplifier through its coaxial cable.

To increase OTA signal strength, run each cable (Voom dish & OTA) to its independent STB connection.

For Diplexer Picture: Go to Voom Help Desk; Voom Faq (Master Contents); Video/Audio Hookup.

You can do without the Diplexer, BUT KEEP the Power Inserter; you'll need it.

That's all correct. Just to add to the above:
1. Usually there are two diplexers involved: one (usually on the roof) combines OTA and satellite cables in one, the other one (attached to the STB) splits them.
2. For multi-room installations a multiswitch is used instead of a diplexer on the roof.
3. When diplexers are being used, you normally do not need a power inserter, as the DC voltage is provided by the STB itself.
