DIRECTV Raises TV Prices

In other words, the result of the new Nexstar deal along with other renewals/deals that happened over the past year like Diamond Sports, Spectrum Sports, MLB (Padres/Diamondbacks), NFL Media, Willow, Sony, Weigel, etc. You can throw FOX Entertainment and Sports in there too since that December 2022 renewal was made after the previous increase was already sent out. They might have also quietly renewed Paramount as BET+ was added as a SVOD option last week.

Other providers like DISH, Comcast/Xfinity, Charter/Spectrum and Verizon FiOS are also having increases for similar reasons, and even OTT providers like YouTube TV, Fubo and Hulu Live had increases too after new deals were signed.

This is kind of noteworthy as it is the second increase in one year. For a long time, Directv has always increased once at the beginning of the year. They decided they couldn't wait the 60 days until January (effective in November)? That is surprising. Is it an indicator that they'll speed up increases, maybe every 9 or 10 months? Surely can be taken that way.

I think the recent renewals contribute, but it's surprising they didn't just wait the 60 days. I have to wonder if they'll speed the frequency of increases to see what their customers will tolerate. If churn does not increase following this increase (more than after any other increase), then this could escalate to more frequent increases.

Dish did this a handful of years ago - moving January to November. Now this year Dish moved their increase to October.
