DISH Network Price Change

It would be nice if we had Starz for the duration of the new season of Torchwood, but I don't think an air date for that has been announced yet. I'm not sure if they've even shot a single episode yet.

Where is this 3% annualized number coming from? For example, AT120 goes from $40 to $45, a 12.5% increase. If that's wrong, someone correct me. After all the past increases this year, this really hacks me, especially considering the channels that have been lost. I could care less about the premium movie channel. I, like many others, have Netflix so this is useless. Plus Charlie has to pay for them so part of the increase is to pay for that. Again ridiculous. For years this was the best DBS company, but in the last 5 years, it's become a joke. No base package under $50 when you consider the DVR fee thrown in.

Looking forward to hearing the criteria to get the free 1 year premium. If a commitment is required, I'm not interested. If not, well, nothing beats free, right? ;-)

As much as I don't like price hicks we'll see them until the government does something about this monopoly. Still cheaper then D*. With their new price hick I'll still save $9.54(or $ 6.36 if I wouldn't go with Whole house DVR, but if i was with D* I'd have that)

Dish
$69.99 (250)
$6.00 (DVR)
$14.00 (VIP211)
$ 0.00 (HD)
Total with Tax $ 95.39

DirecTV
$70.00 (Choice Xtra)
$10.00 (Whole House DVR)
$18.00 (3 x $6.00)
$0.00 (HD)
Total with Tax $104.93

Maybe I'm missing your point but I only pay $3 for D*'s Whole Home DVR

That got me thinking, too. I have AT200, going from $54.99 to $59.99. That's a 9.1% increase. Even if I divide that by 2 (number of years for price freeze), that's still 4.55% a year increase.

America's Top 120 will be $44.99
America's Top 120+ will be $49.99
America's Top 200 will be $59.99
America's Top 250 will be $69.99
America's Everything Pak will be $104.99
Dish America Bronze will be $34.99
Dish America Silver will be $49.99
Dish America Gold will be $59.99

Latino Bonus Pack will be $15.00
Latino Clasico will be $32.99

Scott what is the catch with this on getting a premium for 1 year free? Also, in honor of the company’s 30th anniversary as a pioneer in satellite TV, DISH Network is offering premium movie channels free for one year to most customers. DISH Network also offers Free HD for Life, which provides access to high definition feeds of popular channels at no additional cost:)

Saw this on another board and thought it was interesting. This is only for package prices:

  • $52.99 price set Feb 2009 ($3 increase)

Your first receiver is free with Direct as it is with Dish.
I thought that the new wording with DirecTV is that the first two receivers are $6/month [and then $6/month for each additional receiver]. Currently, for Dish Network, if you have a Duo receiver, then 2 TVs (1 HD and 1 SD) is covered. An additional Solo receiver is $7/month. An additional Duo receiver is $14/month. An additional Duo DVR is $17/month along with a $6/month DVR fee.

Technically, certain setups can be beneficial to some in saving money. For example, if a sub has three TVs (2 HD and 1 SD), then with DirecTV the first two receivers will be $6/month and the additional receiver is $6/month. With DirecTV, the equipment fee would be $12/month. With Dish Network, a Duo receiver would cover 1 HD TV and 1 SD TV; this receiver is "free" (included in the base package price). Then, the sub could have an HD Solo receiver. Therefore, with Dish, the equipment fee would be $7/month. This would be a $5/month savings.
Using the same setup with 4 TVs, DirecTV would be $18/month while Dish would be $14/month. This would be a $4/month savings. With Dish, one Duo receiver would mean no equipment fees for 2 TVs. However, my guess is that most subs have more than 2 TVs.

It is also not to say that other setups could benefit from DirecTV depending on what subs want. You just have to figure out everything you want and compare.

Also his price prices are still off

DTV pricing 2011

Choice Xtra 65.99
DVR Fee 7.00
2 extra recivers 12.00
Total 84.99
with MRV 87.99

Choice xtra not shooting up 7 bux only too get solid numbers before posting please. and that not directed at you tiger but at andrew.

I still think that America's Top 250 (which will be $69.99/mo.) and Choice Ultimate (which will be $70.99/mo.) is a better comparison as both have the Encores and TMC (The Movie Channels). There are some differences between the two. For example, Dish has Epix 3 in America's Top 250 while DirecTV has Sundance in Choice Ultimate.

The 2-year price freeze is a little misleading. Technically it is true that prices will be frozen for 2 calendar years, but year 1 already saw its increase. They are effectively only bypassing 1 year of increases.

As for the free premium, what happens if I already subscribe to Starz?

Here is a good example with what most people are taking with direct right now is 1 hddvr and 1 hd box. So lets run some pricing for "existing customers"

Dish Network (AT120 + 612 +211 config )
AT120 44.99
DVR 6.00
211 7.00
612 (included as primary receiver )
HD (waiving HD here but isnt there a fee for signing up for free hd for existing subs? + ABP aka autopay )
FLTax#1 0.49 ( FL Flat Sales Tax 7% only applicable to 7 dollar HD solo receiver fee )
FLTax#2 6.72 ( FL Communication Service Tax 13.17% taxable on Programing and Services fees like DVR fee )

The reason I picked FL was they are the Highest in Taxes so it give a worst case scenario

Total $65.20

Directv Feb 2011 pricing

Select 44.99
DVR 7.00
H24 6.00
HD Free ( if customer signs up for ABP aka autopay )
FLTax#1 0.42
FLTax#2 6.85

Total $65.26

Savings will differ on directv side if we saying 2 hddvrs which most dtv customers who been around 3+ years have who frequent these boards.

But I though the long standing deal was that dish was supposed to be so much cheaper then direct that what my customers always say and echo on this site.

WoW Hemi we can get you switch back and start saving 6 cents a month that .72 cents you could be re investing some where lol.

Good to see you back around Hemi.

Ugh to those Florida taxes (although I am not from there). I feel sorry for them. I do not see the Select package on DirecTV's site. Could you please provide what channels are available? I found a list I believe on a forum. I do believe this is not the package that requires an international package. I know some DirecTV subs, and I know that some of them would like to go down on their package. However, they are finding it difficult to give up some channels. Could you provide me with a link or list of channels that DirecTV offers in the Select package.

Are these the channels included (thanks to xmetalx from dbs talk []Channel list for current SELECT package? - DBSTalk.Com as I just did a Google search):

Dish Network's 30th anniversary? Dish Network was in business in 1981?? Am I missing something, or is Chuck counting his C-Band days?

After the price increase, I can tell you which package I'll choose... the cheapest one that has the channels I want, lol. :D

Cheers

I do have everything pak.. So how’s is premium STARZ/PAK going to effect my price then? I’m paying that package with my equipments about $165 a month!
