Dish is still the most competitive in pricing we all know that. We complain bout losing channels which sucks but at the end Charlie doesn't wanna bump up prices... Again! Lol

Depends on the package and what equipmnet you get. I have AT250 and platinum with E*. Switching to D* I'm getting the Choice Ultimate package as I think that's the closest comparative package. I have a VIP622 and a VIP612 with E*. I'm getting 2 of the HR24s from D*. Also getting whole home DVR from D*.

When all promos are over and gone, I'll be paying about $3 a month LESS with D*. PLUS.... I'll save about $400 the first year with D* in promos, rebates and discounts.

In the past, whenever I looked at switching, this was not the case. It was always going to cost me a boatload up front to switch and the programming was more expensive by quite a bit. Seems to have changed.

Personally, DISH is on a very long leash. The only thing I'm really missing are the Seconds From Disaster reruns on Nat Geo. Even losing my local FOX affiliate (although I do not believe it is one of those in danger) probably wouldn't make me mad enough to switch. Right now about the only thing that might make me switch would be a great deal that benefits me economically.

lol.. if we had "I'm leaving" vs. "I'm staying" threads, you would have one with 1000's of people.. the other with dozens.. lol.. :)

For those who say DirecTV boxes are buggy, all I have to say is I've never had a lock up, deleted recordings, failed to record, broken buttons, hdmi connection, etc. which I had with Dish.. just saying..

I'm thinking of switching to DirecTV but not sure what equipment I'll need.

Living Room: Need a HD DVR (currently a 622)
Basement: Need a HD DVR (Currently a 722)
Kitchen: HD...no DVR is needed (Currently a 221 or 212)
Bedroom: SD (currently TV2 from 622)

I only have 1 cable running to each in finished walls.

HD DVRs:
HR20 through HR24
HR20 has a built in OTA tuner, cannot do 3D, and the second best HD DVR they have.
HR23 does not need BBCs.
HR21 through HR24 can do 3D.
HR24 is the fastest, HR20 is the second fastest.

HD Receivers:
H20 through H24. H20 is junk, cannot do 3D, runs hot, but has an OTA tuner
H24 is the best.

You can use MRV for $3/month to watch DVR content on your HD receivers.

If possible, try to get HR24's for your DVRs and H24's for you HD receivers (just use an HD receiver for your SD TV as well, or run a separate line from another receiver). The problem is, DirecTV is running low on inventory due to the increase in the amount of installs and the upgrades to MRV. The longer you wait, your chances of getting and HR24 or H24 greatly decrease

Since I was in my sis house saw her U-VERSE, since have the service from the beginning ,she’s gets a lot more channel then dish after I looked at her guide & she’s very happy with service after few years …makes me real tempted to change the dish to U-VERSE ..After all about dish losing this channel & that every month or so ..But I am still under the contract for about a year and I have almost 10 EHD’S full of movies & all and cant watch it with another provider..Such as that’s piss me off and pull me back to change the service..but o well good luck to U if u don’t care about that!

U-verse is about to lose a ton of channels too. And most of U-verse's lead is due to premiums. Anyone considering switching because of Fox should seriously check out the lineups of the competition. Dish is still way ahead of most on HD nationals, which is why I switched from D*.

Question for the Dish folk actually. I'm probably going to switch to DirecTV for several reasons, but that's not really relevant for this post.

My question is as follows. If I cancel with Dish now, go with D* for 2 years, and want to switch back to Dish. Will Dish treat me as a new sub allowing me to get whatever new sub promo's are running at that time?
