I didn't know where to post this myself so I will create a new thread for all this stuff to go into.

Dusty Baker is signing a 2 year extension today with the Reds. :( I was sooooo hoping he would be fired.

I too thought he would be shown the door (ala Grady Little in 2003).

Chris Speier proved himself to be a worthy manager during Dusty's absence. The Dodgers also have a 3rd base coach that I believe will make an excellent manager, Tim Wallach.

Wow, how you think like me. I just told my wife that same thing this morning. She was surprised he was resigned too.

AMAZING how much traction the SUPPOSED A-Rod coming to Miami after the post season for Heath Bell...and the Yankees swallowing $100 million of the $118 million left in his contract.

And the list goes on and on.

I wonder what happens to the $30 million in home-run milestone bonuses in A-Roid's contract with the Yankees. Lesser markets would not be able to reap the same kind of financial benefit from promoting those milestones that the Yankees contemplated reaping when they included them in his contract,

It looks like the Red Sox will be getting former left fielder and current first baseman/ designated hitter Adam Lind on the back end of the John Farrell deal. I see that Lind had one humongous year in 2009 but has spiraled downhill ever since.

His contract terms are actually quite favorable to a team giving him another shot, because there are three reasonably priced, club-controlled buy-out options, so if he sucks, then all he costs the Red Sox is his $5 million in 2012 salary plus a $2 million buyout, whereas if he can come back to being two thirds of what he was at his peak, then he becomes a bargain for the next three years at 7, 7.5 and then 8 million dollars.

If he comes back, the Red Sox could get four years out of him for just 27.5 million dollars.

Is there some kind of concern, other than the possibility that he just isn't as good as he once seemed to be?

Lind was not included in the deal and, according to Toronto, his name never came up.

I remember that Bell was a hot commondity as a free agent. Everyone was waxing poetic about him but not now.

When Dusty Baker loses, it gets worse each time. 2002, the Giants were leading in Game 6 of the World Series and lost game 6 AND 7. 2003, Steve Bartman, enough said. And now this year, with the Giants winning 3 straight games, including all 3 on the road.
