Possibly due to the extreme heat, we received several channels OTA this morning from the (York – Harrisburg – Lancaster – Lebanon) area including WPMT FOX, Antenna TV, FOX 43 News 24/7, WGCB MeTV and other channels from our location here in Pittsburgh nearly 250 miles away. The channels had excellent signal strength and lasted approx. 3 hours.

recently I have picked up Cleveland Ohio, a lot of the time just this morning i got channel 13 NBC out of Indy I am about 180 miles away from Indy I get also channel 6 out of Indy. Dayton, Cincinnati, Aurora IL picked up one night, Bay City Michigan, Columbus Ohio. So with the hot weather it does have its advantages. Plus no mosquito's.

This is called "skip". The broadcast waves are being focused by weather phenomina so that some spots relatively far away can receive a crystal clear picture for a relatively short period of time.

Back in analog days, living in SE New Mexico, I have received stations from Sacramento, California to Tampa, Florida, for only a short time of course, but they were stable full color NTSC signals from over 1000 miles away using a Finco 400-A as in my avatar.

I got a few amazing pick-ups at times. Only happens early mornings when it is warm out. Most Philadelphia channels (160 miles away) are a regular thing at times like these. I once got a channel from Virginia Beach at over 400 miles away.

I've picked up WCSC 5 from Charleston, SC (174 miles from my home in Greenwood, SC) over the air this morning via my Philips Indoor Antenna. Neat! But only temporary. I've also picked up WAGA 5 and WPCH 17 from Atlanta, GA recently. DXing eh!

Antenna that Promises Free Cable & Satellite?

Nice Tropo last night here in Minneapolis
