Place your bets...7 new TMP HD channels at 110.

The only new HD channel discussed in this thread that would get me to click my remote is Fox News. I'm otherwise satisfied with the HD Essentials and Cinemax/Starz HD channels I currently get. Give me Fox News and then offer HD Only to existing subscribers and so long Dish SD.

I think I'd have to agree with that...a little less to pay every month won't kill me.

I don't have dish HD yet, but what is this stretching you describe? Why is a stretched image coming from the satellite? Usually it's a result of having your tv in the wrong mode...

My thanks to Pepper for giving us that succinct explanation of stretch o vision. And I did not mean to imply Food Network is one of the worst. In fact, they are one of the better ones, IMHO.

Sometimes, the content provider decides to upconvert, stretch, spindle, fold and mutilate an SD or ED source program into something they think they can pass off as HD. And sometimes the stretch is not done evenly across the screen. Sometimes the middle is more or less normal, and the edges are stretched more, and maybe at varying rates.

As more material is originally captured in HD, we should see less and less of this. But don't expect everything on an "HD" channel to really be "HD" today.

Honestly, cheapness on the part of most broadcasters is the reason why this isn't the case. Cinemax, the Voom channels, HDNet, HDNet Movies and MGM HD are all 24/7 HD. We should expect the same from the other bandwidth hogging HD channels.

The big question I have that never gets answered is...

Will New Orleans ever get HD locals?

It would be nice to not have to mess with the small antenna on my bedroom HDTV anymore.

My crystal Google Earth ball says yes.... for Ciel-2 129w.

And thanks to nelson61 for the data.

IFC HD
Comedy Central HD (if/when available)
BBC HD (if/when available)
AMC HD
FX HD
Spike HD
MonstersHD... errr... i guess, Chiller HD

If we got 3 of these I'd be ecstatic. Prolly lucky to get one. :(

Even with the 7 new HD slots, that dosen't make it to 150 HD channels by years end.

No. But it does make it 'up to' 150. Oh wait... technically we are already there. As for 'real men' HD channels, I will decide on the value of 'HD Spice' et-al after I get a Bluray and rent my first Bluray porno. :D

& Adult Swim...

Venture Brothers new season was produced in HD, but shown in stretched out letterbox! AT LEAST ZOOM IT, YOU IDIOTS!

I've never seen any HD on Adult Swim. couldn't bring myself to watch Clone Wars, so I can't speak to that...

At least VS-HD or GolfHD, while the existing split channel takes over one of them.

Possibly Spike HD, since they get along good with viacom, and TMC and the Showtime HD channels, which may be the reason why. ;) Maybe Chiller...

I doubt you are going to see any Fox or Rainbow channels anytime soon.
