I voted HD DVD, no reason to spend more and get less.

I don't think you've thought your cunning plan through. Spending less to get less doesn't work either.

Lets See. BD Obviously. We have all the exclusives. WB is doing lossless now. Pirates, Disney Classics, Spiderman, Casino Royale, Borat, DaVinci Code, etc etc.

BD is a better technology in that it has more space. More room for special features, better video bitrates, more audio choices. SCRATCH RESISTANT!!!

Not a hard choice this month!

I have HD DVD but am getting really frustrated with the lack of "NEW" releases that come out compared to Blue Ray. Someone brought up the Combo-disk, that is a real freaking rip off.

I gather he's saying he has no problems with scratches on rented BDs, but has with HD-DVD.

Acutally, I think he means that since BD is very hard to scratch it is very easy to rent and know that the movie is going to play okay. That is my read on it.

It means I've rented several HD DVDs that are so scratched they skip. I've never had a problem with a BD because of the hard coat.

hd dvd baby

this is what i really think i think soooner or later the market is going to see that hd dvd pq is way better than bd pq and for a cheaper price its a steal. and then sooner or later all the major studios that are not with hd dvd are all going to join up with hd dvd
its like the saying goes if u cant beat im join him ,:up

How can the HD DVD PQ be better when the majority of the common titles (Warner) are bit for bit identical VC1 encodes?

Objectively, Blu-ray can support higher pq for the most demanding video as it maxes out at 54 Mbps while HD DVD is limited to 36 Mbps.

Just because there is a bad transfer or two on Blu-ray doesn't mean you get to ignore the laws of entropy and make false claims that HD DVD can somehow do more with less.

Nobody is running around likening all HD DVDs to their transfer of Spartacus, yet the rabid HD DVD fanboys like to pretend that every Blu-ray looks like the Fifth Element.

What will HD-DVD fanboys say when then new 50gb Fifth Element comes out smoking? You know Sony is going to redo that title and it is going to kick but!

Neither format will die IMO. AS soon as HD DVD burners are available you will be able to read BD and rip HD DVD or vica versa the player really doesnt matter. And why spend more on the player if you dont have too. VC-1 is VC-1 whether you are playing it on an HD DVD disk or a BD disk. AS soon as the HD DVD burner is available all of those rentable BD releases effectively become HD DVD's for many.
